- **Kasia** (https://www.facebook.com/katarzyna.trotzek) founded Chrumkowo on June 1, 2017, seven years ago, establishing the first pig sanctuary in Poland. For several years, she co-ran the sanctuary with Dobrawa (https://www.facebook.com/dobrawa.tokarczyk), and for the last two years, with Gabi (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000880056602), with Dobrawa providing continued support. Yes, *love*—something that many people find hard to grasp, but that's only because they don't truly know pigs. Today, they care for nearly 90 pigs, and they've reached the limits of their physical and financial capacity. So, we kindly ask you not to request additional admissions, as saying no is emotionally challenging for us. Our experience speaks for itself. Each year of our sanctuary's operation is a testament to our expertise in pig care. Chrumkowo is fully transparent, with annual financial reports available online (just search for our KRS number in Polish). Our pigs are well-cared for, with personalized feeding, veterinary attention, and, most importantly, our love and care. Meeting such incredible and emotional beings, and seeing the harsh reality of what humans do to them, inspired us to stand against it. Humanity has never truly given pigs a chance to show their true nature—instead, it has created a living hell for them. Everything nature gave them has been turned against them: their ability to gain weight quickly, their love of food, their rapid maturation, and their fertility. Pigs have more taste buds than humans, yet in farms, they eat the same bland food. At Chrumkowo, we not only rescue pigs from slaughter but also restore their "pigness." We let them root in the earth, enjoy mud baths, build relationships with other pigs, and indulge in delicious treats. It’s important to distinguish our sanctuary from agrotourism or petting zoos. The role of Chrumkowo is to change the perception of pigs—not as meat, but as companion animals. Our sanctuary is a form of activism. We show people the true nature of pigs—wonderful, intelligent, and sensitive creatures who simply want to live. We believe these rescued pigs are the voice of animals imprisoned and exploited in farms. And with an open heart and mind, people will understand what they are trying to communicate when they look you in the eye, roll over for a belly rub, and joyfully grunt.
