Meet the Heinz 57 club

The two original horses we brought from England,
The left is Britannia she was old at 26 when we first met her, the owner was not looking after her and she was almost at deaths door, she had been an international show jumper, you’ll see from the photos of what she looked like when we first took us, she is the original horse that started our journey and for us the biggest inspiration we could ever have.
Maggie worked with her for a year to bring her health back to normal, all it took was love care and attention, you can see the transformation in the photo, at 28 it was a risk to transport her such a long journey but she stepped of the Lorry like nothing had happened, she was a joy to ride, I could put anyone on her, and enjoyed much time in the forest here but sadly we lost her 2 years later from heart failure, it was a devastating blow to us.
She had given her all on her last 3 years with us, her past she had been used and discarded and left to die but it was Maggie that saw the diamond in her eye and refused to give up.
The other horse is Miss Marshall an x race horse, again another animal used and discarded by man, I brought her for the meat price that a slaughter house would pay as the trainer wanted room for a new horse, she was a challenge with a biting problem and got me many times, she spent more time on her back legs and going wild, no body would go near her, but she had something special that others weren’t seeing, with the work she completely changed and I have used her with young children

Our journey started in Poland and England, with the last 4 years permanently in west Poland
My wife Maggie born and raised in krakow and myself in England on my fathers farm where the “Winnie the Pooh” story is based.
We both shared the same passion and love for animals big and small, especially dogs and horses.
We made the decision to settle in Poland with our own farm, with our childhoods being spent on the farms with horses and Maggie with her grandfathers farm and horses, the proudest Polish man of his horses, sat smoking his pipe in silence admiring his horses.
Our passions soon put life back into an old farm, we brought our 2 horses and 1 dog from England for a life that we wanted.
We made the decision that the animals we take on would be those that need the help the most, there was not a shortage of them here in Poland.
My passion has long been with horses as I grew up with them and worked in racing stables, with dogs they have been around me for the whole of my life, working dogs on the farm to military service dogs in the Army, and have worked with adoption agency’s rehoming Greyhounds from Spain to the UK and America.
Nearly all our animals are adopted or rescues, but we quickly noticed that a lot of dogs and horses being adopted were being given back as unsuitable or “we didn’t realize it had this problem” and the animals going into an uncertain future, a dog that had been rehomed 3 times does not stand much of a chance, some adoptions are simply if you want it take it because we’re to full, which will lead to a higher failure rate.
I’ve worked with many horses and dogs with behavioral problems that were branded as unsuitable for rehoming, I have never accepted that statement but with the right training guidance and the right adoptee there’s a home for every dog or horse.
This is why we’ve chosen to dedicate our time to these animals as it’s such an enjoyment to see a dog or horse getting a second chance and being happy

We are totally opposed against any form of animal cruelty, we don’t accept any length of chain even if the government does, there are better solutions and is achievable if everyone took one second to accept there are good alternatives that we can take

Welcome to the “Halfway house” for rescued Greyhounds.
We offer a service for foundations in evaluating rescued Greyhounds that have no history of their past or behavior, often found abandoned or taken from abused environments or even police seizures from illegal hunting.
Sometimes it’s possible to avoid the dog being taken directly to the kennels but can come direct to us for usually a period of about 2 weeks in a normal home environment to be evaluated whilst the organization starts the process of advertising for a permanant home.
The dog is assessed for their behavior, temperament, acceptability of other animals, children, stress and acceptance of living in a normal environment, the dog is involved in all activities on the farm and are included with us socially, we don’t know if their lives have been on the end of a chain, a dirty box or has been pampered with home life, the list is endless of what’s accessed.

The purpose of this service is to help foundations to understand the dogs temperament that have no history and to best judge who will make the best adoptees.

On occasions a dog may have trouble settling after often going through traumatic times and need a longer time to get settled and trusting of humans again, we start any training process and once progress is being made a new adoptee is more informed to carry on any future training.

The main purpose of our work is help those that need it the most and to help reduce the stress of not going to the kennels but into a normal home environment and to help the dog and foundation match to the best adoptees that become a forever home first time and not rejected for a fault that no one knew about.

Foundations will advertise the dog as they normally do ,we will provide a link back you our face book page where we post usually daily where not only the foundation can monitor the dogs progress but anyone who is interested as a potential adoptee, this frees up valuable time for the foundations as they don’t have keep updating on their sites.
If anyone has a genuine question regarding a dog we’re happy to answer, but as I said we play no part in deciding where the new home is, that’s solely down to the respective foundation.
But if you’re just happy to watch the progress we make with each dogs journey it’s welcomed.
We provide a true unbiased full report at the end of the assessment and from there it’s up to the foundation to choose the new home, when that happens we ask for a picture of the dog in the new home so we can complete the end of our journey and mark the start of another dogs new life.

In life there should be a purpose, this is ours

Please feel free to read over the next few posts about who we are and how we came to this point in our lives, and get to know our Permanent residents known affectionately as the “Heinz 57 club”
