“Arno became a member of our family in September 2022. Arno is the most gentle dog in the world. He is vigilant when strangers appear, he can bark, but if we, as owners, allow the presence of these people, he sniffs them and tries to be friendly. When we wake up, he comes out of the den and greets us by wagging his tail. During the day, he likes to lie by the door on the step and observe the surroundings. He has no interest in hurting the squirrels running around the garden, the neighbors' cats, or the birds. He is a huge pet who loves belly rubs and tail rubs, scratching behind the ears, cuddling. He likes to go for walks, he is interested in new places, dogs and people. On the property, he loves to chase a ball or string. At home, he behaves very politely, spends time with us or in his kennel and absolutely does not hunt our adult female Ragdoll. Our adventure with Arno has only just begun, but we can't imagine life without him. This is our Gem, lovely snout, doggie and all what is most beautiful 🥰🐶”

“Arno został członkiem naszej rodziny we wrześniu 2022 roku. Arno to najłagodniejszy pies na świecie. Zachowuje czujność, gdy pojawiają się obcy, potrafi zaszczekać, ale jeżeli my, jako właściciele, pozwalamy na obecność tych osób, obwąchuje je i stara się być przyjazny. Gdy się budzimy, wychodzi z legowiska i wita się z nami merdając ogonem. W ciągu dnia lubi leżeć przy drzwiach na stopniu i obserwować otoczenie. Nie interesuje go krzywdzenie biegających po ogrodzie wiewiórek, kotów sąsiadów lub ptaków. To ogromny pieszczoch, który kocha mizianie po brzuszku i przy ogonie, drapanie za uszami, przytulanie. Chętnie wychodzi na spacery, jest zainteresowany nowymi miejscami, psami, ludźmi. Na posesji uwielbia ganiać piłeczkę lub sznurek. W domu zachowuje się bardzo grzecznie, spędza czas z nami lub w swoim posłanku i absolutnie nie poluje na naszą dorosłą już kotkę Ragdollkę. Nasza przygoda z Arno dopiero się zaczęła, ale już nie wyobrażamy sobie życia bez niego. To nasza Perełka, pyszczek, psiunio i wszystko co najpiękniejsze 🥰🐶”

“Axel!
I wasn't really going to buy a new dog at all. I mean, of course, I had in mind
growing my dog ​​family consisting of Gordon Setter and Dachshund with a Borzoi, but these were just plans. I was browsing the breed information on the internet and I was constantly checking sales announcements. But it was supposed to happen in the near future, not now :) At the beginning of April, for professional reasons, I went to the vicinity of Szczecin. As soon as everything was done and I was about to go home, I remembered the announcement about a breeder of borzoi in Szczecin. I thought that when I got so close, maybe it would be good to drive up and take a look. I called and despite the fact that it was a Sunday, the owner of the kennel agreed to visit. I pulled up and the meeting began. From the very beginning, I felt that it was no coincidence that I had just found myself in this place. I saw a whole bunch of great borzoi. I didn't know where to look. One of them caught my attention, but after a while I felt the gaze of another who at some point came very close to me and it was he who started watching me. It was Axel. I was still looking around, looking at other puppies, but he kept coming to me. And it happened. I already knew that it was him and that I just have to modify my plans for the undefined future :) I was returning home and thinking about only one thing: when to go for Axel. I didn't wait long and in a few days Axel was with me. Madness has been going on since that day :) Axel made friends very quickly with the Gordon and Dachshund. I know all the owners think so, but he is just unique! I travel a lot and he loves to travel! Of course, I take him every time. He loves the forest, loves to run on the beach. He has amazing speed and always comes back to me. In the morning he jumps on the bed and wakes me up with a visible smile. Although he ate my shoes, ruffled my pillow (I think even two) and has even broken the glass from the table, his innocent gaze, loyalty, affection and joy that he gives me are worth everything! Well, his name is Axel for a reason - like Axel Rose from Guns'n'Roses! So he has to be rock'n'roll :)”

“Axel!
Tak naprawdę to wcale nie miałem kupować nowego psa. To znaczy oczywiście miałem w planach
powiększenie mojej pieskiej rodziny składającej się z gordon seterki oraz jamniczki o borzoja, ale to były plany. Przeglądałem w internecie informacje o rasie i ciągle zaglądałem do ogłoszeń sprzedaży. Ale miało to nastąpić w niedługiej przyszłości, nie teraz :) Na początku kwietnia z przyczyn zawodowych pojechałem w okolice Szczecina. Jak już wszystko pozałatwiałem i miałem wracać do domu, przypomniało mi się ogłoszenie o hodowli borzojów w Szczecinie. Pomyślałem, że jak już jestem tak blisko, to może dobrze byłoby podjechać i obejrzeć. Zadzwoniłem i mimo tego, że była to niedziela, właściciel hodowli zgodził się na odwiedziny. Podjechałem i zaczęło się spotkanie. Już od początku poczułem, że jednak to nie był przypadek, że właśnie znalazłem się w tym miejscu. Zobaczyłem całą gromadę wspaniałych borzojów. Nie wiedziałem gdzie mam patrzeć. Moją uwagę zwrócił jeden z nich, ale już po chwili poczułem na sobie spojrzenie innego, który w pewnym momencie podszedł do mnie bardzo blisko i to on zaczął
mnie obserwować. To był właśnie Axel. Rozglądałem się jeszcze dokoła, patrząc na inne okazy hodowli, ale on ciągle do mnie przychodził. No i stało się. Już wiedziałem, że to właśnie on i że moje plany dotyczące nieokreślonej bliżej przyszłości po prostu muszę zmodyfikować :) Wracałem do domu i myślałem już tylko o jednym: kiedy pojechać po Axelka. Nie czekałem długo i za klika dni Axel był już u mnie. Od tamtego dnia trwa szaleństwo :) Axel bardzo szybko zaprzyjaźnił się z
gordonką i jamniczką. Zdaję sobie sprawę, że wszyscy właściciele tak uważają, ale on jest po prostu wyjątkowy! Dużo wyjeżdżam, a on uwielbia podróże! Oczywiście zabieram go za każdym razem. Uwielbia las, uwielbia biegać po plaży. Rozwija niesamowite prędkości i zawsze do mnie wraca. Rano wskakuje na łóżko i budzi mnie z widocznym uśmiechem. Wprawdzie zjadł mi buty, potargał poduszkę (chyba nawet dwie) i ma na swoim koncie nawet stłuczenie szyby ze stolika, ale jego niewinne spojrzenie, lojalność, przywiązanie i radość którą mi daje są warte wszystkiego! No ale przecież nie bez powodu ma na imię Axel – jak Axel Rose z Guns ’n’ Roses! Tak więc musi zachowywać się rock’n’rollowo :)”

“Arya is a typical Borzoi lady - still quite shy, but also incredibly proud and stubborn. Her favourite thing in the world is napping, then tearing stuffed animals apart, creating artistic installations out of toilet paper and encouraging cats to play a bit too enthusiastically. She is definitely not a fan of physical exertion, and to the word "walk" she reacts by firmly lying down on her back with the stomach up.” - translated from Polish

“Arya jest typową borzojową damą - wciąż jeszcze dość nieśmiałą, ale przy tym niesamowicie dumną i upartą. Jej ulubioną rzeczą na świecie jest spanko, zaraz później rozrywanie pluszaków na części pierwsze, tworzenie instalacji artystycznych z papieru toaletowego oraz nieco zbyt entuzjastyczne zachęcanie kotów do zabawy. Zdecydowanie nie jest fanką wysiłku fizycznego, a na hasło "spacer" reaguje stanowczym wywaleniem brzucha do góry w pozycji horyzontalnej.”

“Winka is a big rascal in the body of an angel. When you look at her, you can see an angels halo and puppy eyes, and as soon as you look away, she immediately steals something (usually shoes), chase birds or run away to a dog she sees on the horizon. She likes to run in the fields the most, and then covered in mud goes straight to bed. She is very friendly and affectionate, reserved at first, but after the first sniff she easily accepts :) She follows commands without any problems - she sits down, gives her paw and bows. Well, unless there is a bird or another dog nearby - then there is nothing you can say to stop her 😃- translated from original in Polish

“Winka to kawał urwisa w ciele aniołka. Jak się na nią patrzy to widać aureolke i cielęce oczka a jak tylko odwróci się wzrok to od razu coś kradnie(najczęściej buty), wyrywa za ptaszkami lub ucieka do pieska na horyzoncie. Najbardziej lubi biegać po polu a potem cała w błocie pakuje się prosto do łóżka. Jest bardzo przyjazna i przywiązana, z początku zachowawcza ale po pierwszym obwąchaniu łatwo się przekonuje :) bez problemu robi komendy- siada, daje łapę i robi ukłon. No chyba, że w pobliżu jest ptaszek lub inny piesek- wtedy świata nie ma😃”

When another dog is petted, Aurora will surely remind you of herself. During her walks she plays with tennis balls, likes to bite sticks and has learned to fetch for treats. In 1958 Richard Avedon made a series of photoshoots with Marylin Monroe where she posed as several of the original s*x symbols of the silver screen (Lillian Russell, Marlene Dietrich, Clara Bow, Jean Harlow and Theda Bara). In the pictures as Jean Harlow she is seen with a Borzoi (which Jean loved and owned).

We will get back to Jean Harlow and other famous stars of that era in a separate post as borzois were very popular among the American elites at the time.

Continuing our posts of famous borzoi owners we take a look at Axel Munthe a Swedish-born medical doctor and psychiatrist, best known as the author of "The Story of San Michele". His philanthropic nature often led him to treat the poor without charge, and he risked his life on several occasions to offer medical help in times of war, disaster, or plague (For his service during the war awarded with the title Honorary Commander of the Royal Victorian Order). As an advocate of animal rights, he purchased land to create a bird sanctuary near his home in Italy, argued for bans on painful traps, and himself kept pets as diverse as an owl and a baboon, as well as many types of dog.

Captain EJ Smith, the captain of Titanic, with his Borzoi, Ben. The borzoi was gifted for Smith’s daughter Mel, by the family friend Benjamin Guggenheim (yes from THOSE Guggenheims), who traveled often on ships skippered by Capt. Smith. Benjamin was originally scheduled to sail on another vessel, but ended up on the Titanic, bringing a large Russian wolfhound as a gift for the captain’s daughter. The dog remained overnight, but was taken home to Smith’s daughter the next morning, so he was not on board when the ship sailed to meet its fate...
