Many people have reported and asked WLA to remove Balina, a 2 year old female stump tail monkey "to be with her own kind", "she's going to be aggressive", I don't like the way she looks", "she is going to breed with longtails or pigtails".
Balina has been with the abandoned pet monkeys and Amber Troop monkeys for 2 months. She has not been attacked and she is not aggressive they have accepted her well. Balina is starting to make friends in the groups, playing, exploring, swimming, and climbing trees. She is finally starting to feel accepted and more comfortable with the monkeys. She is living with her siblings Niron, Sakani, and Bopsa also with 2 friends that were abandoned shortly after her Samphas and Metrey. She as established friends and family that have protected her from the harassment of Yat Yus. Sakani when recovering from her in jury from a dog attack came to her warned Yat by giving him the grimace face and chattering to him. She hugged Balina and sat beside her until they walked away. Sakani has protected Balina several times as Samphas has also. Her foot was very badly injured assumed she was caught in a trap. While recovering she also came to Balina's aid when she was being harassed.
Balina has lived her life in the abusive home of Ky Sokkim until she was dumped into the Savana group 2 months ago to start her free life. She needs time to become more secure living in wildlife, learn how to protect herself, how to forage for food, and learn the monkey rules before taken someplace else. I wonder if anyone considers what Balina will go though if she is removed and placed with other monkeys that are living in the wild? Monkeys are not well accepted. They are attacked, injured sometimes severely or even killed. If they survive and are accepted the become the lowest in the troops and will eat what ever they can find or they starve die of a slow painful death.
Why can't people stop interfering in monkeys lives and let them live peacefully. Balina is not a threat and she will not be mating age for about 3 more years. She needs time to gain self confidence and become independent.
The closest sanctuary is Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary about 2 hours away. We saw a glimpse of Tom and possibly Sina earlier this year. Tom very thin and scared, Sina has been attacked and looked in a very bad condition. They are not rehabilitated they are taken and dumped survive or die?
It is nothing less than abuse to dump a monkey of any species without proper rehabilitation.
We just lost Joey and Obie and possibly 6 unconfirmed monkeys. Think about what they are going though and Joey and Obie are wild monkeys . It will not be easy for them to integrate into an area with other monkeys. Is this what people really want for a Balina?
