This little girl is looking for a new home. We found her today. She is approximately 5-6 months old and had been living in the wild, abandoned by “humans.” She seeks contact but is still very afraid.
We caught her today.

Her new family will receive lifetime help with her training from me and Tromplo.

In light of the new Johnson & Wynne (2024) study, which used both electric collars and positive reinforcement methods to curb chasing behaviors, I’m shocked by Dr. Wynne’s justification of pain-based training. The study says,: „We did not observe negative welfare impacts in the dogs trained with e-collars beyond presumably pain-induced yelps in immediate response to the electric shocks.” Dr Wynne argues that because „injury rates from traffic accidents are estimated at over 0.4%, with more than 20% of dogs hit by cars dying from their injuries,” the use of such methods is warranted.

Furthermore, he implies that because some people lack proficiency in positive reinforcement, pain-based methods are acceptable. Using this logic, we could justify child labor in cases where parents or guardians aren’t equipped to support their families. While punishment and negative reinforcement are indeed effective in certain contexts, that’s not the issue. The real concern is that we’re regressing to a mindset where „effectiveness” is the sole criterion, ignoring the ethical implications and welfare of the beings involved.

*the study has way more flaws but that’s a story for another post

Ever since Gacek died, I couldn’t imagine having another dog join our family. But as the months passed, I started to feel that we needed a third dog. There were always three dogs—our G Team wasn’t complete without Gacek.

The day I decided I was ready to adopt, I saw him and knew he was the one. Today, we’re welcoming a new member to our family, Gustaw. He’s about 4 months old, was abandoned on the streets, taken to a shelter, and now he’s with us.

Little guy, just stay healthy, and I’ll take care of the rest!

I can’t wait to show you the world!

🔧 Just because you’ve done it for years doesn’t make you an expert.

What does having teeth have to do with being a dog trainer?

We often mistake familiarity for mastery. Just because something is common or we’ve done it for a long time, doesn’t mean we’ve mastered it. True expertise comes from continuous learning, practice, and passion.

Remember: EXPERIENCE IS NOT ENOUGH.
It’s not about how long you’ve done something, but how well you’ve learned and grown from it.

Not convinced?

Read the testimonials from the former students:

„I took Trainer's Toolbox with Agnieszka, and it was a terrific class! It gave me exactly what I was hoping for: a systematic overview of the foundations of good, technical training. The course was well organized and clearly presented, with helpful videos and exercises. The material helped me solidify my understanding of behavior, and filled in some gaps as well! Agnieszka’s feedback was prompt, encouraging, and very helpful and her passion for excellence in training is infectious! I came away from the class inspired and full of new ideas. I definitely recommend it!”

“I tried it, and it doesn’t work... I need a new approach, exercise.”

How many times have I heard this from caregivers when I asked if they used the X, Y, Z method? This applies to all BATs, CATs, as well as strategies for learning retrieve, heelwork, or recall. Why are known and established techniques not working?

I learned to ask one more thing when handlers tell me that method XYZ didn’t work, that they tried them all, but they were all ineffective. I specifically ask: What exactly did the training look like? How consistent were you?

Very often, it turns out that the handler:

✔️ Used the method but skipped step one because their dog already “knows” how to do it.
✔️ Used the method but skipped step three because it is not what their dog needs right now.
✔️ Used the method but rushed through the various stages because their dog is very smart and does not need so many repetitions.
✔️ Used the method but doesn’t know what it looks like exactly because they only read the summary of its use on the internet.

MODIFICATIONS and lack of CONSISTENCY! These are the nails in the coffin of the effectiveness of most methods and techniques. We can compare this to a person on a diet who stuck to their menu all day, so in the evening, they think they can afford chocolate or a cookie. Or a runner who skips the warm-up because they have been doing it recently and did not see a difference in the effects after three days.

Of course, there is no method or technique that works for every dog in every situation. Still, very often, the ineffectiveness is not caused by the “uniqueness of the dog” but by errors in applying and conducting training or not sticking to the program long enough.

We may not realize it, but often the success of training plans lies in nuances we may not recognize. These details are not added by chance.

The truth is, most of the time you don’t need new trendy, Instagram games for your dog. You just need to be more consistent.

My dogs have always been my biggest supporters. They’ve always had my back, no matter what. But recently, they’ve gone above and beyond.

Both dealing with my mom’s situation and this week with my surgery on Monday have been rough, to say the least.
had to move to a different city from Monday until today. They stayed with my fiancé, but he had to drive me to the hospital again on Tuesday (the pain was surreal, and I had to stay another night). They didn’t get a lot of attention or walks. They spent two days in a car, just driving from place to place. They have to sleep with my fiancé in a separate room (for two weeks until they take off the stitches from my leg), and you know what? They were not bothered.

The only thing they needed was to stay close to me during the day. That’s all I need right now ❤️❤️❤️ I don’t know what I would have done without them.
