The Guanica Animal Rescue Project

The Guanica Animal Rescue Project Our aim is to rescue and medically rehabilitate homeless and abandoned dogs in the Guanica, PR area and find them forever homes in the U.S.

The Guanica Animal Rescue Project is proud partners with Sir Henry Sato Rescue Network and all donations go through Sir Henry. The Guanica Rescue Project is run by Lynn Descoteau (formerly of the The Hachiko Animal Federation/PR chapter) in Guanica, PR. The Guanica Animal Rescue Project (GARP) and Sir Henry Sato Rescue Network is 100% volunteer, 100% donor funded, and 100% of our donations go to m

edical care, foster care and adoption of our rescues and shipping costs. The Guanica Animal Rescue Project is located in Guanica, Puerto Rico in the borough of Ensenada on the southwest side of the island. Guanica has long been known as a small fishing village on the coast with beautiful beaches, lovely scenery and a rich history in agriculture. Unfortunately, like many other towns in Puerto Rico, it has fallen upon bad economic times and is considered one of the poorest areas on the island and this directly impacts the animals in the area. As a result of the economic downfall, and even cultural mindsets, many dogs, cats and horses are left to fend for themselves and are abandoned on the streets. Our mission at the Guancia Animal Rescue Project is to help as many of these animals (dogs and cats primarily) as we can with much needed veterinary care, foster care and find them forever homes throughout our network of partner organizations in the United States. We spend considerable time re-socializing and showering lots of love on our rescues so they are brought back to life again and are ready for that new home and family. The ‘rebirth’ of these animals is very rewarding for us. We partner with two other key organizations on the island (Barks of Hope and Defensa de Animales Rincon) to provide services and care to the animals in our area. At GARP, we provide sterilization, vaccinations, necessary and emergency surgeries and foster care to our area animals on their way to new forever homes. We involve ourselves in the local community by providing educational materials in the schools and homes on the importance of sterilization and vaccinations, proper care and compassion for the animals that still live on the streets. The homeless animal population impacts businesses, tourism, the island economy, the drug trade, bullying and domestic abuse. Our aim is to work on providing safety for the animals and draw the correlation in the community to these problems. Please consider donating or sponsoring one of our rescues. We promise you will feel as good as we do when you know you have saved a life. Please donate via PayPal at https:www.paypal.me/sirhenrysato and be a part of the solution. Good morning desr FB friends and animal lovers.

I guess there is no need to say as more people sign as more the politicians will pay atention.
To help our animals in need we need to consider multiple options and use anything that could help to make a difference.

Lets be advocates for those without a voice. They need us more than ever.
Dont forget
TOGETHER WE ARE STRONG.❤❤❤

Rest in peace little Tequilla.
🐾🙏🏼❤🌈
Even we thought this would never happen he found his human and final destination.
Tequilla was a tiny senior with a injoured leg. The owners left to the US and left Tequilla in the abandoned house. I don't even know how he survived.
He was the most loving little senior satito. (Little mud). Unable to hunt or protect himself.

The neighbours grandson visited her. We went to say hi and Tequilla sneaked in the neighbours house directly to his new papa. It was love on the first sight so to speak. We always say the dog finds his human🙏🏼
Since then, the two have been inseparable.
Tequilla was his best friend and emotional support dog. Loved and spoiled.

I hope that this is an inspiration and makes us apreciate peoole that do one of the most important jobs in the world. And honestly I do not think that they earn what their work is worth.
The garbage collection was supposed to come on Tuesday.
Because of the storm and the heavy rain it was expected that they would not make it.
I had a little mountain full of trashbags next to the drum.
Its a lot of cleaning after the storm .
When I heard the garbage truck I realized how much more these people have to work in their really hard job. So I ran out to the drum and helped throwing the stinky bags in the truck. The gentleman wanted to stop me he told me no I'm doing that and I answer please let me help. They have to throw everything in with their hands and the drums are super heavy.
After we finished I said: thank you so much for your service sir. You are doung for sure one of the most important jobs in the world. He looked surprised , as if he heard this for the first time in his life. 🙏🏼🇵🇷

I had Covid and struggled with extreme symptoms. Actually, I decided not to take more dogs in till I am cured but this plan didn't work.

Eluña and Pepe need your prayer. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I had to hospitalize them today because of severe Parvovirus infection. The third puppy, Toto , is in my house he is stabilized and medicated.

They were abandoned behind the curve in the front of my house so that they wouldn't be recorded by my security cameras. I almost ran over one puppy that was lying in the middle of the road right after the bend. 3 innocent Angels . Scared, suffering malnourished and eaten alive by fire ants.
It's often that I rescue puppies that are very sick or/and have Parvovirus. But what should I do turn away and leave them there to die slowly and painful?

This 3 Angels need your help.
No donation is too small and be secured that every help is highly appreciated.

I dont know how you feel when you see dogs mating❓❓❓
Well I see many puppies dying on the streets and a malnourished dog mom fighting to survive for her puppies.

When I moved to Peñuela I saw this beautiful dog . In the meantime she gave three times birth. Most of her puppies died.
I tried to catch her since 18 month. Not that easy as i thought . Our stray dogs are so smart. But I also learned not to give up.
It was worth it. Finaly and due to an incredible good teamwork with a resident (and a ton of luck😂 ) we caught her . She was full of fleas and ticks . I gave her Nexgard and brought her next morning to the vet. The hardest part for me was to release her after recovering back to the streets.😪

Mission accomplished.
🙏🏼🐾❤‼‼
A big THANK YOU to Kelly Meadows and Spay Our Satos, Puerto Rico . She sponsored the spaying and vacination. Please suport her organisation. In the extrem overpopulation of stray animals is getting daily worse.
Spay Our Satos are making a huge difference in Puerto Rico. Spaying is the only solution.
The communities should support them or invest in prevention not in( killing ) euthanizing.

⁹We should never lose our faith, even when life sometimes seems hopeless.
IMiko was rescued after the major earthquakes in Puerto Rico. A resident from Guanica called me for help because Miko was attacked by big dogs and was hiding in his backyard. I caught him with a pole.
Although I deal with a lot of dogs in need I have never seen such a sad, hopeless and heartbroken dog than him. He was skin and bones, paralyzed and could move only forwards on his front legs. And he could move very fast. That showed me that he was paralyzed since longer time and adjusted to be able to survive. It took quite a while but step by step and day by day he did better and better and better. He recovered so good that Miko even started walking again. Although the vet told me that I should buy him a wheelchair to support his back because he would never be able to walk. Some people call it a miracle . He was very happy in my Sato pack but we both knew that this was not his final destination yet.
Nobody was interested in him so I told him that he is home and he belongs to my paw family... But I hadn't counted on Jada Adorno . She didn't give up searching and found the perfect adoption. Rachel Einglett Elliott and her hubby Terry Elliott adopted Miko. Now Mr. Miko Miraglo (miracle).❤
At the end of the day we don't know who rescued whom. (Humans that adopted a dog know pretty sure what I'm talking about. )
But one thing I know for sure.
He has the most loving family and lives the best life ever. Together with his new sisters and brother doggies And yes love makes miracles happen.
Thank you Rachel and Terry for all the updates and beautiful pictures. Since you adopted one of my babies your a part of my Sato family . Hope we'll meet soon ❤️🙏🏼

There are those days when you don't know of it's a curse or a blessing.
Yesterday I woke up without light and water and I had a night cargo flight for 9 puppies.
The temperatures went rocket high . Than there was an event at the airport and extreme traffic jams where prognosed.. Not to take a chance we decided to go really early. My friend Carol picked me up and we loaded the truck and prepared everything. Not easy in that heat.
We arrived really early but found a place in the shade under a tree and we could walk the 9 puppies (yes it's quite a job😂) , clean the kennels, and let them recover from the trip and heat.
Than finally we got them ready to fly.
To say goodbye is not easy.
I know Marcy's t7 puppies almost since they were born and helped them surviving with the milk bottle.. So I felt sad and happy at the same moment. But to know that they will find soon their forever home is more than a reward it's priceless.
Don't let circumstances beyond your control ruin your day. Stay positive and never lose faith.🌿

So the day started up really poor and ended as an incredible blessing.
It was a long trip back and I arrived tired but happy home and there was light and water .
I'm blessed.🙏🏼❤️🐾

What do you do to help your dog feel safe?

16/05/2024

On a night back in 2017, Scout made his first escape from an animal shelter and walked the quarter mile to the Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility, through its automatic doors and on the cozy couch in the front lobby.

After being returned to the shelter, Scout made his escape again, and then again. Finally, on his third escape, the nursing home's administrator Marna Robertson decided to adopt him. Read Scout's story — in his own words: http://spr.ly/6181drY9X
