The Guanica Animal Rescue Project is proud partners with Sir Henry Sato Rescue Network and all donations go through Sir Henry. The Guanica Rescue Project is run by Lynn Descoteau (formerly of the The Hachiko Animal Federation/PR chapter) in Guanica, PR. The Guanica Animal Rescue Project (GARP) and Sir Henry Sato Rescue Network is 100% volunteer, 100% donor funded, and 100% of our donations go to m
edical care, foster care and adoption of our rescues and shipping costs. The Guanica Animal Rescue Project is located in Guanica, Puerto Rico in the borough of Ensenada on the southwest side of the island. Guanica has long been known as a small fishing village on the coast with beautiful beaches, lovely scenery and a rich history in agriculture. Unfortunately, like many other towns in Puerto Rico, it has fallen upon bad economic times and is considered one of the poorest areas on the island and this directly impacts the animals in the area. As a result of the economic downfall, and even cultural mindsets, many dogs, cats and horses are left to fend for themselves and are abandoned on the streets. Our mission at the Guancia Animal Rescue Project is to help as many of these animals (dogs and cats primarily) as we can with much needed veterinary care, foster care and find them forever homes throughout our network of partner organizations in the United States. We spend considerable time re-socializing and showering lots of love on our rescues so they are brought back to life again and are ready for that new home and family. The ‘rebirth’ of these animals is very rewarding for us. We partner with two other key organizations on the island (Barks of Hope and Defensa de Animales Rincon) to provide services and care to the animals in our area. At GARP, we provide sterilization, vaccinations, necessary and emergency surgeries and foster care to our area animals on their way to new forever homes. We involve ourselves in the local community by providing educational materials in the schools and homes on the importance of sterilization and vaccinations, proper care and compassion for the animals that still live on the streets. The homeless animal population impacts businesses, tourism, the island economy, the drug trade, bullying and domestic abuse. Our aim is to work on providing safety for the animals and draw the correlation in the community to these problems. Please consider donating or sponsoring one of our rescues. We promise you will feel as good as we do when you know you have saved a life. Please donate via PayPal at https:www.paypal.me/sirhenrysato and be a part of the solution.
