Good farmers grow plants, great farmers grow soil!
Our composting story so far...this is our second year producing organic compost to feed our soil. It’s magical to see how big chunks of waste turn into a nutrient rich soil, which feeds our plants and gardens.

Composting is the most affordable way to build good soil. You don’t have to produce compost on large scale to make a difference. Keep it simple and you’ll see the impact as you start adding your new compost to your farm/garden. You can make compost form literally anything, except bones, meat we make it out of:
✔️Kitchen scraps
✔️Tea bag contents
✔️Chicken bedding
✔️Leaves
✔️Twigs
✔️Old plants used soil

Black color in soil indicates the soil has a high organic matter. Organic matter tends to make the soil color darker, as well as very fertile & important for no-fertilizer farming.

✅By composting you:
♻️reduce burden on the landfills
♻️cut your carbon footprint
♻️manage waste
♻️you create an ecosystem for other living organisms.

Some updates from the Horta. The Rainbow chards are still going strong. New lettuces have been also planted this week.

What we are harvesting now.
Given the farm is a little dormant during these cold winter months and we are getting ready that new sowing season coming up, we are harvesting everything that is season now / romanesco broccoli 🥦/ leeks / cabbages and winter chard was well as staples like parsley and coriander.

O que estamos colhendo agora.
Dado que a horta está um pouco dormente durante estes meses frios de inverno e nos estamos preparando para a nova semeadura que se aproxima, estamos colhendo tudo o que é temporada / brócolis romanesco 🥦 / alho-francês / couve portuguesa/couve Lombarda/ repolho e acelgas de inverno e também básicos como salsa e coentro.

O que fazer com as abobrinhas, pois elas são cordas para a estação?
Você pode fritá-las lascando-as fina e longitudinalmente. Atire-os em um pouco de ovo e um pouco de farinha e frite. Eles acabam crocantes e deliciosos.

What to do with courgettes, as they are coming in season?
You can fry them by slicing them thinly lengthwise then toss them in a little egg and a little flour and fry. They end up crispy and delicious.
