Who is who?
The unicorns being nice.
Falésia has a muzzle because she's trying to eat all the time when ridden by beginners.
I found those very big and open ones and am truly happy with the results. Falésia will not starve by not eating for 2 hours 😅😂

After an amazing 5,5 years with us, Mr. KP will retire. I could say, it was a hard decision, but I would be lying. If you listen to your horse, sometimes you hear things you don't like. KP was talking loud and clear that he doesn't enjoy being ridden anymore. Having earned as a race horse and suffering from typical arthritis since the age of 6, he broke his shoulder, traveled the world, settled in Portugal and made lots of dreams come true, he has given so much of himself, that he deserves a retirement with dignity when he asks for it, and his love Quehaja.
Both horses had difficulties bonding with other horses, but they found a deep connection with each other. They will inhabit their own, private paddock, as they do not get along with others.
Jonas Norte rode him for the very last time and I rode Quehaja to their retirement home.
Hopefully he will have some happy years ahead of him!

Jonas Norte saw the post about her on Facebook almost 6 years ago and thought this horse would be a perfect project for my set of skills. After a short exchange with Algarve horse alarm we agreed to Foster Train her to get her prepared for a forever home. After being with her for a few months, Femke asked me to start her under the saddle, to get her more options for adoption. In 9 months she made an extraordinary transformation - so good that she has been adopted.
Two years later came the unexpected news, she would return. She was getting unpredictable and dangerous in her new home. No one enjoyed being around her.
We have been approached to take her back into foster care. It was COVID-19 times and we were not sure if we could afford her. Still, to our understanding, we would be the best solution for this special mare.
It was agreed to take her in with a sponsor for her food. Her only external support is Lyn Soppelsa, who has been sending funds to AHA for her hard food every month for the last two and a half years! A very special woman, we will be forever grateful to her.
To be honest, I was devastated when she came back - I could barely touch her, without her squeaking. Riding her was a nightmare. She was so good, when we gave her out of our care, over two years ago.
The reset was more difficult than the first time she was with us. The first time, I could pick all her hooves after 5 months. The second time, to this day, she wont giver her hind hooves.
You can only reset a horse ever so often.
She developed hormonal issues which now taught me new knowledge again.
Still, she needs a new home. The biggest problem, she might or might not kick people randomly.
Having been abused for a decade, sometimes she sees something flashing in the corner of her eye and she kicks. Of course she feels sorry the minute she does it, but it doesn't change a thing.
Jonas and I sat down, over the last half year him and me, independently, came to the conclusion: Ladybug needs a forever home! She can't stay in foster care forever. He asked me if there was a potential home for her. If it would even make sense to rehome her. He said, either she goes or she stays. Her staying would be a special sacrifice for him. "In the dark, all greys look the same and one might just kill you."
I will be super, super honest with you all: I am not super attached to Ladybug. She is a special mare, she is a good and solid working horse - she needs work to stay grounded. She, on the other hand, is very attached to me. She does her squeaking thing and I squeak right back. She listens to our special language - I cannot push her over, neither can I push her back. She is too sensitive for that, but she obeys the voice command without fault. And I cannot see any more suitable place for her than Adventure Riding.
We are going to adopt her, if AHA agrees.
Now, AHA also knows....

Happy 5th Birthday Second Chance

This was his first Beach Ride and he did a very spectacular stunt when the first white water hit him. Unfortunately I didn't catch it on camera but fortunately he had no rider on top....
Crazy.
Later on we have been chased by a yellow, a brown and a black Labrador which didn't listen at all and almost ended up under our hooves. Well all ended well and the weather was amazing.

Do you see the rain in the back?
Oh my, it was pouring down the whole night, the morning, the early afternoon and at 1:45pm it cleared up and the sun came out.
I got the horses ready - this wonderful couple was already there. We were chit-chating and the horses were ready in no time.
Off to the cliffs!
It was windy but simply breathtaking.
When we got back, I cleared up, got the horses to the paddocks, put El Niño and Ladybug on the pasture. I filled the hay nets for the afternoon and the evening (I learned 😂), brought the last two saddle pads to the rack and the heavens opened up! Ever since it's pouring down again!
Now tell me that this couple (they are so adorable) has not been followed by Karma, who wanted to give them a special treat!

Days like those lighten up the rain season 😍

When people say, their horses don't want to go to the water...

Falésia, Isabel and El Nino looooooove the water, the waves, the sand. It's a big party and we get all soaked but with big smiles.

New girl in town!
Qhaneha (here with Bennettons Highness) is a very rare MARE that makes my heart beat a little faster.
She is a livery and half sister to Platin and Quiana.
She has been with us for 3 years now and was one of the biggest challenges I ever had.
She didn't know people back then and is naturally such a dominant and aggressive horse, in the wild she would kill wolfs, I am sure.
Now I completely trust her with me and my husband.
She is stunning! Has dream gaits and will reach a nice size. I estimate her to grow just shy of 160cm.
She suffers from sweet itch and this is the reason she moved to the "town". Her paddock has no scratch option. She is being treated with creams and special food and there are very few insects due to the high concentration of bats in our area.
Let's see how it goes until she moves to her new home.

Both, KP and Falésia lost their socks (longer story) and I went back to pick them up. Our guests didn't understand at first, that we gonna galopp a second time and so they made me wait a while. Here is Isabel getting her galopp denied right after the turn. She was so good and didn't run off.

Wishing you a powerful, adventurous, bright and horsey 2024!
May hay grow vastly and the dust settle quick. May fresh water flow and let's enjoy a little brise that blows away mosquitos.

We wish you a happy new year 🎉🎊 #2024

Bestest weather during our country ride today 🌞
I had the best company and look forward to see her again, very soon.

Tomorrow we plan to go on a moon ride and I hope the clouds keep at bay...

Wishing you a wonderful last week of 2023 🎉🎊😊

There is a part of my soul that only feels happy when it can sooth the injured part of a horse's soul. It wants to be with this horse until all cracks are healed and it doesn't need me anymore.
Sometimes it's harder than others.

06/12/2023

More and more often I hear about desensitising and I am not a fan at all. More often than not desensitising is teaching helplessness. A horse is being overpowered again and again with mostly plastic sheets and has no option to get away from it. Instead of feeling comfortable, what the intention is, the horse yields into a sutiation it doesn't see an escape from.
There are more horse friendly ways for a horse to flourish in different situations, than pulling a plastic sheet over their heads and bodies.
