Agriper's Bonheur "Barabbas" can title himself Norwegian Junior Winner and he has also won the Nordic Junior Cert, CK, r-CERT and became 2nd best male! ❤️
Yesterday he also qualified for CRUFS! 💪
Tomorrow we keep our fingers and toes crossed for equally good results and hope a little extra for another J-CACIB for nice Barabbas! 🤩

⭐ Det finns möjlighet att träna för Marcel nere i Bålsta, Stockholm nu i Maj och Juni! Än så länge har dem inte fått ihop tillräckligt många anmälda och nu är sista chansen om det ska bli någon träning i Maj! ⭐

Marcel Wissing är en super duktig och reko IGP figurant och har jag har själv kört för honom flera gånger. Tyvärr är jag själv inte tillgänglig någon dessa helger, men jag rekommenderar verkligen Marcel! 💪

• Agriper's Aska - g-COI: 14%, clear on all genetic health conditions and non carrier of long hair.
• Agriper's Aaron - g-COI: 14%, clear on all genetic health conditions and non carrier of long hair.

* g-COi= Genetic COI, is calculated by analyzing the amount of inbreeding in the DNA. Not to be confused with the pedigree based inbreeding COI. The pedigree COI for the A-litter is 0,6% on 5 generations. *

DNA testing is a very useful tool in breeding dogs. Not only do you get information about the inbreeding if you test with Embark. Your dog is also tested for 250+ genetic health conditions and 35+ trait insights, that is very useful when you later choose the mate to breed your dog with. When both parents are tested by Embark, you can also use Embark's Pair Prediction tool. It's just like a trial mating that many pedigree databases have, but with this you get to know about what the parent combination is expected to inherit to their offspring by genetics. In addition to reducing the risk of hereditary diseases by using this tool before you breed your dog, you can also keep an eye on the g-COI of the offspring and try to keep it as low as possible for a more sustainable breeding.

Speaking of COI..
Pedigree based COI does not tell how in**ed a dog is in reality, it can only give an indication of the increase of inbreeding by the parental combination. Only thru DNA analysis you can really know how in**ed your dog truly are and this is very valuable information! Inbreeding has for long been the way of purebred breeding. But more and more breeds are starting to show the real damage of it, especially since we've been very good at over using individual dogs in breeding too. Often you don't have to go far back in the pedigree to find an individual that exist in almost every dogs pedigree, sometimes many times too and this is actually such a good thing.
Today many of our breeds that have specific characteristics have pretty high genetic inbreeding COI on their DNA tests. Often due to over usage of individuals in breeding and a small founding population when the breed first was created. Take German Shepherd or Rottweiler for example, the average g-COI for GSD is 28% and for Rottweiler it is 30%. That's about how much DNA I share with my grandmother/-father, even a little bit more than that, simply explained.

Inbreeding has always been highlighted as the best way to create homogenous dogs when it comes to appearance and characteristic traits. This is absolutely true, but you don't only double the good genes, you will also double any bad ones and the genetic diversity will be reduced. Inbreeding will also make individuals and the population more vulnerable to diseases and environmental changes. Spontaneous mutation in individuals, which actually can increase the genetic diversity in a population, do sometimes occur even in an in**ed population. Hopefully it's not a harmful mutation, but even if it is a good one, only a spontaneous mutation is not enough to rescue very in**ed populations. Then you need to add completely new blood to the mix thru incrossings. This though, is something that has been a controversial thing in purebred breeding. Mixing breeds is often not something that clubs or breeders want to do. Often the fear of loosing characteristics is biggest argument. But no one seems to be scared of the increasing risk of inbreeding depression?
But you know, if you start early with adding new blood to the population in a controlled way, before the inbreeding has gone too far. You can actually decrease the risk of losing the breed characteristics with quickly breeding back within the breed again. Even though you use a completely other breed with very different characteristics..
But usually we wait too long, we wait until the breed has been so damaged by inbreeding that the risk of extinction is getting real. By then the genetic diversity is so damaged that you can't breed back in an early stage when you've done an incrossing and the risk of loosing the characteristics is very high.

We are welcoming Agriper's Aaron to our pack! ❤️ He's a lovely boy and it will be very interesting to see how he develops in our care! I already have some plans for this boy actually, which includes a herding class in April and a class in people-search in June. 👌
Aaron is a full-brother to Axa and son of Eja and Silogården's Nixxon. 🥰
