Hi All, would like to share an interview that we did on Channel News Asia on Tuesday. This is to also raise awareness with regards to the situation of the rescue center and the latest news that bans keeping of chickens in HDB. In recent months, our center has faced an increasing amount of chickens being abandoned on the streets. Its sad to see that many people start of keeping chickens thinking that they are cute and when they turn out to be too bothersome or when they turn out to be roosters, they are subsequently abandoned. We do anticipate further rise in abandonment cases in Singapore and as a rescue center, we do our best to rescue and rehome every chicken possible.
Recently we were informed by the government that we wont be able to secure a permit to house 20 chickens at our rescue center without vaccinating every chicken that comes through our center. Financially, it doesnt make sense for us as we are all volunteers and every cost from the center is borne by us. We are currently still in negotiations with the government with regards to this issue but if we are unable to progress in any talks with the government regulatories, we will have not choice but to shut down early next year.
Our center, would like to thank everyone for the continuous support and we will continue to work hard to rescue and abandoned chickens and ensure they are rehomed to loving homes.
More pet chickens are being abandoned and sanctuaries are running out of space to house them. Rescuers say there's been a 40 per cent jump in neglected chickens in recent months, as more residents get into a flap over noisy chickens. Chloe Choo reports.
