Realised how little before-and-afters we’ve been putting out as a dog grooming studio 🫣 Not prolonging a sesh for the sake of photos has always felt more important—for our pups, staying in a spot for an hour or two while getting groomed isn’t exactly their idea of fun 😮‍💨 Go shake it off and enjoy some well-deserved downtime with your favourite humans!

Grooming Care for Senior Dogs

Arthritis is a common ailment that affects our canine companions as they advance in age. The signs of pain and discomfort can be subtle in our senior pals, making it crucial for caregivers to anticipate potential discomforts and pain triggers when providing grooming care.

Some ways to minimise joint stress and strain:

✅ Moving limbs in alignment with their natural walking gait, carefully avoiding any awkward or unnatural extensions.
✅ Minimising overall weight-bearing on limbs, ideally positioning the dog in a comfortable lying position. If this is not preferable, provide gentle and supportive body assistance.
✅ Offering mindful support to their joints during limb movements.

For seniors, the priority is hygiene and comfort. Keep grooming sessions brief, closely monitor their body language, and avoid unnecessary, extended procedures.

𝙍𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙝𝙤𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚 🐾

The Chocolate story is one of grace, wisdom, and purpose.

Much like any devoted dog guardian entrusting their pup’s grooming to a professional, our experience fifteen years ago left us uncertain and worried, with a distraught, shaken dog. The decision to take Chocolate’s grooming into our own hands turned into a heartfelt mission to call for better care for his kind.

The trauma from his experience made grooming top his blacklist. He wasn’t an easy pup to groom. In learning to care for his needs, we learned to listen without words, to kindly empathise, and to practice patience. With much trial and error in a time when guidance was non-existent, his grace allowed us to find our way.

We see Bubbly Petz as Chocolate’s guiding nudge to create change, to do better. When things get tough and the convenient, popular path seems tempting, his wisdom always reminds us to choose what’s right over what’s easy. Gently yet fervently, his spirit keeps us grounded, acknowledging that we are far from perfect, and reinforcing our duty as caregivers to never stop learning and trying.

Our long-time customer and dear friend Andrew captured Chocolate’s essence perfectly — 𝘈 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘭, 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘥𝘰𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘪𝘧 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮. We couldn’t agree more.

Our home and the studio may be quieter without the Bossboi’s presence, but his influence echoes loudly in the choices we make and will continue to guide us forward each day.

When envisioning a trigger-sensitive studio space for BP v2.0, integrating a sensitive dog friendly area was top on our list. Our experience in BP v1.0 showed us that a communal space wasn’t conducive for those who find comfort and safety away from the main action, and we wanted to do better.

Props to our brilliant friend , BP v2.0 now features a grooming area dedicated to sensitive souls in need of personal space. In a private, fully equipped room of its own, a pup’s grooming can take place free from external triggers and in the comforting presence of their emotional support human.

Intentionally located near our alley entrance away from the hustle and bustle of Joo Chiat Road, this space is designed with those who may benefit from quick, interaction-free entry and exit in mind 🍃

Always a work in progress, we hope our new space has been bringing more calm and comfort to you and your furry fam 🤝

When it comes to assisting our furbuddies through grooming procedures, many would think that treats are the only go-to. Essentially, different doggos have different innate needs to feel supported. It can be the guardian’s presence, the freedom to move around and away, and/or play - just to name a few.

Surely, reducing grooming fears and anxieties is a complex, multi-faceted process that involves more than just these positive reinforcers — a discipline that we earnestly invest in learning and applying 📚
