In Loving Memory of Browny
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Browny, our 14-year-old Poodle who faced every challenge life threw at him with courage and resilience.
Browny came to GentlepAws in May 2023 under heartbreaking circumstances. His owner had taken him to the vet to be put to sleep. Neglected, in pain, and deeply defensive, Browny was suffering from severe ear and eye infections, skin issues, and spinal problems. He snapped at anyone who tried to help him, a reaction born from the immense discomfort he endured. Despite his condition, Browny showed an incredible will to live—he ate well, remained independent, and fought against the odds.
In September 2023, Browny underwent surgery to remove his ear drums due to a severe infection causing him pain. The operation was a success, and he could still hear faintly, as if from another room. During his hospitalization, Bronwyn and her family visited him regularly to build a bond, as they intended to foster him.
On 1 October 2023, upon his discharge from the hospital, Browny went home with Bronwyn. Their journey together was not without challenges. Browny remained defensive, growling and snapping during care routines like administering eye drops. But Bronwyn’s patience, compassion, and belief in building trust over time worked wonders. Slowly, Browny began to let his guard down. He enjoyed short walks, sniffing flowers, and seeking out Bronwyn for pats and affection.
In August 2024, Browny started hydrotherapy sessions to strengthen his legs and showed remarkable progress. His skin, once severely damaged, improved significantly with the use of apple cider vinegar. Under Bronwyn’s loving care, Browny found joy in life—relaxing on his favorite bed, relishing his meals (especially apples and pears), and even learning to understand some sign language.
Sadly, on 29 November 2024, Browny’s health took a sudden turn for the worse. He could no longer stand, required constant support to eat, and was on heavy medication to manage his pain. After consultations with the vet, it became clear that his condition would not improve.
On 30 November 2024, at 3:30 pm, surrounded by Bronwyn and her family, Browny crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully.
Bronwyn’s words remind us of the profound bond between humans and their pets: “He will be dearly missed, and he taught us that it’s not what you get from a dog, it’s what you give—and we gave him love.”
Browny’s journey was one of resilience, love, and trust. From being abandoned and defensive to knowing peace and care, he lived his final chapter with dignity and warmth.
Thank you, Bronwyn and family, for giving Browny the love he deserved.
Rest in peace, dear Browny. You will always be remembered as a fighter who taught us the true meaning of unconditional love. 💔
