This was a tough one to let go of! We held back this promising boy (7 months now) with very sound structure but ultimately made the decision to let him go to a pet home. Any one can put two cats together and call themselves a breeder these days (hor??) but true preservation happens in the quiet discipline of knowing and defending your breed standards. The easiest part of breeding is producing kittens. The hardest part is choosing not to.

Work is what we do by the hour. Welding car bodies on an assembly line, washing dishes, computing taxes.. these are work. Labour, on the other hand, sets its own pace. We may get paid for it, but it’s harder to quantify: writing a poem, raising a child, invention in all forms — these are labours. Work is an intended activity that is accomplished through the will, but labour has its own schedule.

It’s been quite the journey, but there is no technology, no time-saving device that can alter the rhythms of creative labour. And in building our body of labour, we have also built a body of affection with the people who have helped us, and, like any great relationship, we know that it just gets better and better as the years roll on.
