Sq**rt passed away last night at 11.18pm. I don’t know his actual age but I estimate it to be around 2 years. He would diagnosed with multiple masses in his intestines, causing him to lose a lot of weight even though he was on supplemental feeding. He took his last breath in my hands and I was able to say a proper goodbye before he left. Good night, Sq**rt. You will be missed.

Lunara left this world at 7.58pm today. She passed quickly in my hands. Despite medical intervention, she could not escape the fate of many other Syrian hamsters with heart murmurs. She will be so missed and I will remember her as a feisty and independent lady who preferred to be left to her own devices. Lunara was hand raised by me as her mother had started to eat and kill her siblings. She was the only survivor of the litter and she came to me, pink and eyes still closed. However, a strong survivor she was and she grew big and healthy. Run free, spunky girl, and I hope that you will have unlimited mealworms and grasshoppers to eat 🌈. You will be so missed.

I said goodbye to my Pixie yesterday. She wasn’t that old but she was cursed with poor genes due to inbreeding. She was born with neurological issues which affected her balance and her teeth had to be trimmed by a vet every two weeks. Still she was the sweetest, independent girl who would come to me for treats but was happy to be left alone. She lived her life to the fullest! Even when she was ill and needed syringe feeding plus cleaning, she never screamed or bit me. I’m thankful that she passed peacefully, slumped over her favorite nightly porridge, hopefully, dreaming of happy times.

I said goodbye to Hippy last Friday. He had been down with chronic diarrhea for almost 3 months. Despite so many visits to 3 different vets and multiple courses of antibiotics and anti-parasitics, he just couldn’t recover. On Thursday night, as I picked him up for his regular emeraid feed and bum cleaning, I felt his body cool to the touch. His breathing was shallow and his heartbeat had slowed significantly. He could barely open his eyes and I knew that he was about to make his way to the other side. So I held him and kissed him one last time. Despite being so ill, forced to eat medicine and emeraid and enduring countless cleanings, he never bit me and did his best to cooperate. Hippy was such a joy to have in my life 🌈.
