Finally found the time to post this lovely picture done by Great Eastern who hosted an educational session on the use of essential oils. There was an audience who suffered from insomnia. However, the smells of lavender and chamomile (which helps insomnia) did not appeal to her. Although the audience did not text me after the event, here's my suggestion.
Rose essential oils can be an excellent alternative due to its properties to calm depression. Although insomnia is not depression, the calming effects of rose can help with calming the nerves when you sleep. As rose essential oils are well-know for its hefty pricing, there are a variety of diluted rose essential oils available in the market. This is especially so for rose otto (Rosa x damascena). It can be 10% diluted with a carrier oil like jojoba. Such diluted rose oil is good for topical application. For diffusers, it is best to use either rose otto or rose absolute (Rosa x centifolio) WITHOUT DILUTION. One drop of such undiluted oil in 50ml water is enough for the diffuser. A warm soaked bath before bed with such oils dropped in the bath water can also help. You can experiment with the number of drops at your own preference (stronger or lighter fragrances). Just remember, when it comes to essential oils, less means more.....
