🤔DID YOU KNOW THAT CATS CAN NATURALLY PUT THEMSELVES IN DANGER?
👉HERE ARE 6 SCENARIOS PUTTING YOUR CAT AT RISK
So many people think cats dont jump off balconies and windows.
⭐️Its not so much about jumping off the balcony or the window.
⭐️Its more about what cats do naturally and then miss, slip, fall off of ....
👉I have illustrated in pictures some of the scenarios that are dangerous for cats using the example of an installation we did for a black kitty adopted by Dani Van de Velde from Project LUNI - Rehoming & Caring for Street Cats Singapore.
Dani contacted me to cat proof her home following an adoption of two kittens.
She had a large balcony and windows to cat proof but yet did not want to loose her family life style and enjoyment of the balcony view. Cat safety net truly were the solution for both family and cats.
🙀When we finished the installation and opened the space up for exploration , the kittens were quick to check all the weak spots on the balcony to see if they could climb and land on the handrail and ledges
🤗Thankfully, the cat safety nets were there to prevent any fall.
👉But this really brings home the necessity of cat proofing your home.
⭐️Its very natural for cats to seek heights and to want to explore ledges, handrail, window sills, accessible corniches. Even if they are too narrow to support your cat, your cat will still try
⭐️In real life situation, Cats can easily jump on top of an open door and sit on that narrow width and even jump on hung mirror's frame thinking its wide enough to gain footing.
🙀So imagine how tempting it is to explore potentially dangerous features of your home.

➡️HERE ARE 6 NATURAL BEHAVIOUR SCENARIOS THAT ALL CATS DO AND CAN GET IN TROUBLE WITH:
✅When rooms are inaccessible, a door left open becomes an invitation to explore and jump on something potentially dangerous .
✅A space normally not accessible can become a GAME of "catch me if you can" when that door opens... with your cat racing to jump on window/balcony/utility room ledge
✅When cats have the zoomies, they use features in your home as a parcour, they run, slip and fall. THey completely forget the danger.

✅Cats can also be playful with an other cat playmate chasing each other or have a less friendly chase and end up in a dangerous location forgetting caution.

✅If your cat catches movements or sounds from a bird, critter, your cat may drop all sense of caution to investigate, jump to catch the prey, slip and fall
✅Your cat can be sleeping on a surface you think wide enough, roll in his sleep and fall off or wake up surprised by you , a noise or an other cat..... and slip.
😅Its best to cat proof your home, have a peace of mind, enjoy your space freely without having to be on guard.
😊I have 30 years experience evaluating different cat personalities and how they interact with their home surroundings.
😊I am an expert at knowing what your cat is capable of and how best to cat proof your home.

WELCOME TO MY ONLINE BEHAVIORAL CONSULTATION STUDIO
This is what it looks like when I conduct my behavioral consultations with you and your cats.
It’s like a little studio looking just like a living room.
⭐️My consultations always start with a detailed interview.
👉🏼It helps me build a mental picture of your cat’s personalities, your routine with your cats.
👉🏼I observe your cats and your body language with your cats.
👉🏼I assess your cat’s response to 7 different positive stimuli.
👉🏼We also do a tour of your home .
👉🏼Seing your home lay out, cat accessories and locations give me further clues of how your cats are reacting to their environment .
😊With these information, I m able to come up with a customized plan and recommendations to transform your cat’s routine and your interactions with them, to modify their behaviour positively .
😺The last part of the consultation is reserved for teaching you some skills hands on with the help of my cats .
🐈I will teach you different play techniques to get your cats really moving and interested with different types of toys.
🐈I will teach you how to increase mental stimulation through games and tricks.
🐈I will teach you how to use Feliway properly and a variety of behavioral support aids and tools correctly ( yes 90% of people use them wrongly ) .
👉🏼After the session, I will provide you with support during the implementations of my recommendations until you make progress and feel confident on your own .
⭐️For some of you experiencing aggression with your cats . We will rehearse what to do and how to act with them.
⭐️Most of my consultations take 3 to 4 hours .

🤩WOULDN’T YOU BE THRILLED IF YOU HAD THIS SAFE BALCONY AS YOUR PLAYGROUND ?
🐈Simba has been so excited since we installed the cat safety Net on his 12 meter balcony .
😻He finally has access to this dream outdoor safe space .
🏆The furnishing is perfect for both Pawrents and cats . It’s been transformed into a CATIO for all to enjoy.
🐈Simba has been the star ⭐️ of the balcony , trying, testing and enjoying every corner of his CATIO .
❤️So beautifully decorated too !
😬But you can also see on the pictures how curious a cat is and how DANGEROUS this balcony could have been if not for the cat safety net.
❎Cats don’t like empty spaces .
✅To make your cats more comfortable and less likely to try dangerous stunts, make sure your balcony space is furnished .
✅Empty spaces increase stress and anxiety in cats and they are more likely to be curious and jump on the handrail.
✅Chairs, table, something your cat can sit and sleep on , some cat friendly plants will go a long way to make the balcony a successful safe enriched environment for your cat.
😊This family first contacted me for a BEHAVIORAL CONSULTATION for their 2 cats .
💪The behavioral experience was very successful and they have now welcomed a third rescue into their home .
👉🏼Contact me to turn your outdoor space into a dream SAFE space for you and your cats .
👉🏼Contact me for a Behavioral Consultation to improve your cat’s behaviour and your own skills as a cat Pawrent .
😻It will pay off for many years to come

IMAGINE IF THIS EX-COMMUNITY CAT HAD NO CAT SAFETY NET ON THIS BALCONY ?

An accident would have likely have happened.
Cat Safety Nets protect your cat from falling off your balcony .
It’s a safe and effective method to keep your cat safe.
And it’s barely visible and won’t obstruct your views.
⭐️When you transit a cat from outdoor living into indoor only , your cat will need some time to adapt to his new home lifestyle .
⭐️That timing is particular dangerous for your cat’s safety and outdoor cats can become quite focused on finding exits and trying dangerous stunts.
⭐️Even if your cat have always been an indoor cat, moving homes can be very stressful for cats.
⭐️Its a good strategy to start preparing your cat before and during the move.
⭐️Your cats also need some extra behavioural support for the first 2 months to help them ease into their new home without behavioural incidents.
🤗But did the right thing to contact me and built a plan not only to keep her 2 newly adopted community cats safe but also to help them transition to their new indoor life.
✅Our behavioral consultation helped foresee all the challenges, prepare correctly and minimize the stress on the cats with great success.
✅Our Cat Proofing and catification home expertise made sure the cats had a safe and enriched environment in their new home
😊Jo recently moved home , and called me again to secure her home and ensure a smooth adaptation after the move.
🥰Happy to hear that both cats are doing well , have become good friends and great indoor companions to Jo ❤️😻😻❤️
🤩A great success story for saving these 2 community cats from a building set for demolition.

My Cat Won’t Play !!
That’s what I hear most often as part of my cat behaviour consultations when we come to the subject of solutions and strategies to help modify an unwanted behaviour.
The biggest mistake cat pawrents make :

🙈They do not understand how to move a cat toy to keep a cat interested.
❌Pawrents tend to wiggle a toy towards the cat and in the cat’s face .
🤪Have you ever seen a mouse run towards a cat and punch his nose ?
🙏🏻Please pay attention to the psychology and the behaviour of a prey and a predator !!
(A BIG TRIBUTE TO MY DAD POST FATHER'S DAY)
😅I learned this early on in life fly fishing trout on lakes with my dad .
😅You had to know what type of insects were in season, how they moved in the water and at what depth.
😅I had to pick different flies from my box and experiment til I got the technique of movement right to get the attention of the fish .
🐈Well it’s similar with cats.
✅You got to get the right toys, experiment with movements and imitate how a typical prey would move
⭐️For example playing hide and seek with a prey is irresistible for a cat.
⭐️A mouse will quickly move from point A to point B, hide and stay still. She might make some bristling noise hidden or partially appear to check if any predators around before making it’s next move.
🐈That’s what cats go for and can’t resist.
🤩Now you have your cat’s attention !!
⭐️In the same way , insects such as butterflies , flies and dragonflies move differently and so do geckos. .
⭐️Cats are fascinated by a gecko standing still on a wall and then making a move to yet stand still again .
👉🏼When you play with your cat, you have to pay full attention to your cat’s body language .
👉🏼Be patient and wait for your cat to make his move.
😔We Pawrents are easily distracted and quickly loose attention and interest if our cats don’t immediately play or quickly loose interest.
🙏🏻Be in the moment with your cat, experiment with toys and movements to figure out your cat’s own preferences .
✅Part of my behavioral consultation help assess your cat and your play techniques.
🐈Play time is indispensable .
Your cat needs it ❤️
👉COntact me for a behavioural consultation
✅I provide a hands on approach to modifying positively your cat's behaviour when things go wrong.
✅And I offer consultation for those who are less experienced as cat pawrents and need to learn the skills to prevent behaviour problems and ensure their cat has the best chances at being a happy well adjusted kitty.

🌴🐈‍ HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT A NATURAL CAT TREE ?

A Natural Cat Tree can be the answer to meet your cat’s behavioral needs AND meet your personal aesthetics.
🤩That’s exactly what happened when this family of 4 cats contacted me for a behavioral consultation .
👉🏼They were having difficulties integrating their latest rescue / adoptee Rumi to their 3 resident cats.
👉🏼We have been working on Rumi’s integration step by step , making progresses as both cats and Pawrents are gaining confidence .
👉🏼Part of the consultation highlighted at the time that there was not a lot of catification in their home.
😅Most people tend to resist adding catification to their homes because it does not meet their aesthetics.
😆I fully hear you because I don’t like cat condos myself and that is why I started designing customized cat furniture / catification projects 5 years ago for my customers.
🙏🏻But cats really need some heights and vertical space especially if they are sharing space with other resident cats.
😊I was so happy when Meera later approach me to design a natural tree for their cats.
⭐️I knew the cats through our behavioral consult and I knew their needs.
⭐️It was important to create a lot of height and space large enough for all cats to share.
👉🏼Most cat towers are bottom heavy and skinny at the top.
👉🏼Cats need the reverse
🌴This tree is H210cm and has a total of 7 large shelves, roomy enough to sleep on.
The top 2 shelves are what a call “bed shelves “with a rim .
😻We are working on getting Rumi to be fully accepted .
😻The tree will give the cats some safe height from which they can observe and study each other safely.
👉🏼That’s one of the steps to integration .
🤩And what an amazing view the cats have over the forest.
🐈‍Absolutely Purrfect .
🤗Thank you Meera at .
Looking forward to updates on your cat’s.

🤔DO YOUR CATS COOPERATE WHEN YOU NEED THEM TO?
😔Most people think cats can’t be trained.
💪With positive reinforcement, cats CAN be trained.
But How ?
✅No point trying to wrestle with your cat if he does not want to do something.
✅Instead, make the experience positive .
✅If you need to modify your cats behaviour, provide an equally rewarding alternative. Something that has value to your cat.
⭐️I do my photo shoots with my cats a couple of times a month.
🤣It’s not easy to do selfie’s while one hand is holding the blue tooth shutter and the other hand is trying to hold a cat at face and camera level 🤣.
😹I end up with lots of twists and turns .
😹 Its a challenge to get a good happy shot of both cat and yourself
👉🏼For these selfie sessions to be productive , I have to make them feel :
✅natural, light, fun and rewarding for the my cats .
✅I also have to pick the right timing to get more goodwill out of the cats .
⭐️Remember :
Cats will look forward to
✅special rewarding activities with you .
✅They love consistency and predictability .

HAPPY HARI RAYA AL FITR

😊Wishing you a safe and peaceful time with family, friends and your cats
A sculptural customized cat tree can be a wonderful addition not only for your cats but also for your home decor.
Most cat trees are pretty uninspiring. But not this one.
The organic shape and the white color blends well with all types of decors.
🤩Loving how striking this beautiful vintage Libyan plate looks next to the cat tree.
This cat tree does not require any drilling at the ceiling and can be moved and readjusted if you move home.
Most cat trees are not well designed . They lack space on their shelves and don't have comfortable platforms and bed shelves like this one.
I always design catification with the cat's behaviour and natural movements/comfort in mind.
But equally important is to design a tree that will look beautiful in your home and integrated into your home decor.
The location of the cat tree is also very important. Part of my work is to explain what locations have most value for your cats.
In my consultations, we discuss all aspects of your cat's wellbeing and ensure we have a win win plan for both your and your cats.

🤔IS YOUR CAT WATCHING THE WORLD GO BY SAFELY ?

👉🏼2 things cats want to do no matter what :

😻Sleep and watch their home and neighborhood from a good safe position .
🔥Balconies and windows are notoriously dangerous for cats because it’s natural for cats to try to sit and sleep in those prime areas.
✅Never trust your cat on a balcony and window sill without properly cat proofing it.
😻This rescued kitty from is safe .
✅AND he is fully entertained with a cat tree and a birds eye view of his territory.
👉🏼Having a balcony / outdoor space/ access to a safe window with an elevated view of the Neighborhood can greatly :
😸Lower stress .
😸Prevent behavioral problems
😸Enriched your cat’s daily routine.
😸Create extra territory to share in multi-cat homes .
accidents and death .
😸Give Pawrents access to outdoor space without worry for the safety of their cat .
😸Provide Pawrents with hours of fun watching your cat enjoying life.
🙌All round WIN WIN for All .

🙀WITH CAT AGGRESSION, SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO START FROM SCRATCH.
Black Black and Precious integration had been bumpy . Lately it had taken a turn for the worse.
I had worked with Roshi Lah’s family with an other pair of cats about 2 years ago . It was time to consult me again for this new trio of cats.
Ros and her family had learned a lot from our consultation together back then.
They applied what had worked before but this time it did not work .
🤔WHY?
✅Different cat personalities

✅Différent human cat dynamics

✅Different situation with the environment

👉🏼Can influence your cats differently.
⭐️This is why in many behavioral cases , having a customise approach and a follow up during implementation phase can make all the difference .

⭐️This is what you get when you consult with me for cat behaviour problems .
👉🏼Customised plan
👉🏼Follow up during implementation phase .
😻It’s been a week now since our consultation together and glad to see the cats are starting to respond pawsitively .
❤️Thank you Ros and Victor for trusting me with your cats again and for implementing my recommendations .
🤗We will be following each other closely for further progress .

😅Don’t wait to consult for cat behavioral problems . It can be very stressful for all members of the family and there are solutions available .

04/04/2021

IT ALL STARTED WITH A WHITE STRAY CAT WHO WALKED INTO MY GARDEN WHEN I WAS 10 YEARS OLD.
I have had a special natural connection with cats and loved them from the age of 6.
My mom would not allow me to have a cat. No amount of convincing worked. Until, this stray walked into my life on Easter Sunday .
On Easter, you are supposed to open your heart « responsibly » to animals. There is renewal in the air with spring.
This argument disarmed my mother for a moment and she agreed on the condition that the cat would remain outdoors at night.
The white stray female was named Blanchette. She was everything I ever dreamed of. I took care of her and woke up every morning before everyone else in the family to call for her in the garden and give her breakfast before attending to myself.
Just a few weeks later, I got up to look for her in the garden but she was nowhere.
I decided to go to the front door and that’s when I saw her ...
She had been hit by a car on her way back to me. She was laying dead on the street.
I had a huge shock as a 10 year old. I was inconsolable and felt depressed for months. I was talking about my cat who died under my watch all the time at school.
School eventually called my mom to let her know I was not well and perhaps getting me a new cat would help me move on.
My mother allowed the project of adopting a new cat.
We all learned a big lesson.
The next cat would be a permanent member of the family and he would be a house cat . No free roaming outdoors allowed.
Cities and urban environments are too dangerous for cats.
I was tasked with researching everything I could about cats.
I took this project with great seriousness and purpose.
It took an other 1 1/2 year before I got my cat.
During that time, I read books about cats, breeds, cat behaviour, cat care, cat health. I was present at all the cat shows and took time to understand all the breeds.
I wrote a 300 page manuscript about everything I had learned about cats accompanied by pictures I had taken during that learning journey.

PART 2:
Back in the 70s my parents thinking was that an indoor cat had to be a pedigree cat . Thankfully times have changed, any cat can be a house cat.
I visited many breeder’s homes to make sure we were selecting a Breeder with ethics and with kittens brought up « under foot » in a family home setting.
My family and I decided on a Burmese cat Breeder.
My story with cats is a long journey . This is how it all started, with a stray on Easter Sunday.
Cats continued to be a life long passion.
I became aware of cat safety at a very young age with disastrous conséquences resulting in death .
Cat safety is a very serious issue not to be taken lightly.
I definitely became an advocate for cat safety and spend the rest of my life ensuring my cats were safe . I will be telling more stories about that aspect of my life.
I have helped hundreds of families cat proofed their homes , Catify and solved behavioral problems.
My life work is advocating for the well-being of cats in domesticated settings .
It’s an holistic approach, providing the elements your cat needs to satisfy his natural instinct and become a well adjusted cat in a home environment.
Over the years I have founded a number of businesses that have been focussed around my passion and expertise.
CityZenCats is my latest venture through which I am continuing this legacy of work.
It’s truly become my life ❤️
Happy Easter to all of you 🤗

Open your heart to animals responsibly 🤗😻

😻SASHA AND SIMBA ARE NOW PEACEFULLY PLAYING TOGETHER.
⭐️This is a follow up to my earlier post about Sasha and Simba behavioural story and progress.
😺During my consultation, we addressed many factors and strategies to build a positive environment enabling modification of behaviour.
🐈Play time can be a game changer for your cats.
👉But playtime must be done correctly in aggression and integration cases.
👉With the right toys and play techniques you can turn a negative situation into a PAWsitive one .
⭐️ I take the time in my consultation to demonstrate how to play and to correct your technique.

😊Make time to supplement your cat's routine with Play.

🐈OPPOSITE CAT PERSONALITIES CAN GO TOGETHER🐈
A BEHAVIOURAL CONSULTATION STORY
Every case is different and requires a customise approach.
When Ninart and Jessy contacted me for their 2 cats, many factors may have seemed similar to other cases, but the way each cat responds to behavioural therapy can always vary.
⭐️After the consultation, during implementation phase, we always have to be ready to make adjustments and work closely together until pawrents and cats have worked up their confidence level.
👉Both cats had been living together for nearly 3 years.
👉Somehow their relationships had not blossomed and pawrents were concerned it was stressing their female Sasha and Simba was becoming aggressive.
👉Both cats had opposite personalities.
👉Sasha 8 years old was reserve, anxious, easily scared, would over groom and had retreated from life. She was being bullied and overwhelmed by Simba. She also was not playful anymore.
👉Simba 3 1/2 years old, was bullying everyone including pawrents, constantly looking for something to do, disturbing everyone, being impulsive, patrolling the house and getting himself in potentially dangerous situations.
😅It was time to gain control back on these 2 cats.
⭐️We devised a customised behaviour modification plan based on positive activities . Both cats responded quickly and were soon feeling much better and on the road to recovery.
⭐️During the video consultation, I also analysed the floor plan and review all cat accessories and furniture.
⭐️The floor plan of a home, the location of the cat accessories and human furniture can influence greatly cat behaviour.
⭐️I was able to suggest practical changes and adaptations that could be done to help the cats become better friends .
👉Its always best to provide what your cats need as cats to avoid problems.
🐈Not all cats are resilient and can live with a minimum. Simba is an hyper active cat that naturally required more activities.
😅We have been going crazy in pandemic lockdown so imagine how our pets feel being in the same space all the time if they don't get what they need to satisfy their natural behaviour and individual personalities.
🐈A window can become a great spot for bird watching and napping together or solo if the furniture is arranged in a conducive way.
🐈In addition to re arranging furniture, I customised a really effective scratching post with a comfy bed for the second window overlooking the balcony.
It would have been great to cat proof the balcony, but unfortunately, the landlord would not approve despite the fact that the cat safety protection is temporary and structurally non invasive.
We have had a little set back lately as Sasha required to wear an E-collar for a week. She had been so happy to participate in all the new behavioural activities and she fell back into temporary depression with the E-collar .
Now the E-collar is off and Sasha is coming back to life again .
👉A stay at the vet, a loud noise, a bad experience, an e-collar etc... are all factors that can disturb your cats relationship.
✅Once you learn the skills in my consultations, you are able to weather these incidents and get your cats back on the path of friendship with a bit of extra work and affection.
✅Better understanding your cats and learning what to do is a game changer for you and your cats.
✅Book a behavioral consultation with me for a better relationship with your cats and between your cats.

CITY ZEN CATS by Helene Papillon - Cat Expert

Cats have become members of our families.

We enjoy their beauty and unique personalities, their affection and all their funny antics. They have become our companions and true friends.

We now live in densely populated cities and free roaming is no longer a safe options for cats.

But cats will be cats. No matter if it is a small apartment or a more roomy space with a balcony.
