We have a lot to be thankful for in 2022. Looking back, we upsized to a larger facility, managed an exponential uptick of satisfied clients; and finally introduced our first ever full-time colleague - Cynthia.
Exciting moments await us in 2023. There are plans to unlock new technologies and therapeutic modalities for greater rehabilitation outcomes. We aim to be better resourced by potentially having an additional member to join our team. There will be an increased focus in upskilling our therapists, with cross-learning opportunities to equip and enable our growing talent pool.
This would not have been possible if not for the support of our clients - past and present; our veterinary and clinical partners; industry colleagues, friends and family.
We hold in remembrance to those that we have lost, never to be forgotten.
As we sign off 2022, here’s to many more wholesome moments in 2023.

Welcome to a brand new year, and a brand new season of Project Adopt Live! We kick things off for Season 3 with adoptable doggies from Action for Singapore Dogs. If you and your family are looking for a new doggy addition, come meet these pawsome pups, and give them the chance to charm their way into your hearts!
Our pets are members of our family, and, just like our human loved ones, they deserve our care and attention. This includes knowing what to do when they face medical emergencies. Ralph from Fido's Pawpose will join us later in the episode to share the basics of first aid for dogs, including essential tips on spotting the symptoms of heatstroke, how to carry out CPR, and so on!

We get asked a lot if what we are doing is considered rehab or physiotherapy. We tell clients that while some elements overlap - such as the principles of physical therapy, biomechanics, clinical reasoning etc., we generally work on dogs that are stable and not in pain (or are on a pain management plan). Physiotherapy is used very loosely in the animal industry, but we will never misrepresent ourselves as physiotherapists.
Dogs with sudden onset of pain or lameness should consult their primary care veterinarian for guidance.
We take a very responsible approach and never attempt to perform any exercise or commence a modality that is beyond our professional capacity.
Fudge is a Singapore Special and started his conditioning journey with us 2+ months ago - about 16 weeks post-FHO (femoral head osteotomy) on the left hindlimb. He was referred to us by a friend who was familiar with our work.
During the recovery process, atrophy had set in and he was primarily leveraging his opposing limb for locomotion - which will lead to overcompensatory use of his right hindlimb over time.
Here you see an ideal standing gait, as well as some of the exercises we do to help with improving definition and tone so he can continue to function - be it playing fetch or just chasing his parents around.
We are glad that the owners recognise an improvement with increased definition and weight-bearing on the left, and we are privileged to be part of this journey together with them.

Jeeves comes to us every fortnight as part of a weight-loss/confidence building regime. Initially apprehensive, he has grown to enjoy and partake in the process - notably with treats.
He has an occasional broad stance which suggests he could benefit from balance activities while promoting core stability so he can maintain excellent form and posture.
Here you see him standing stacked on 2 mini fitbones at different heights. This was not molded (physically positioned) but done after repeated conditioning over time. This exercise will distribute weight to the hind limbs (with appropriate posture) and also help recruit muscles in the trunk to remain stable and ambulant.

I feel compelled to share this experience. Zappy wasn’t a client of ours, but his owner attended our PetSaver class recently. She requested for an extended break to feed Zappy his medication as he suffers from a rare form of nose cancer. I obliged and instead invited him to drop by our facility. He passed two days later.
It is a poignant reminder that as service providers, we may not be privy to every clients’ life story and struggles but we have a duty to give our best every time. After all, they may have had to make remarkable sacrifices (like in this instance) to engage with us and we have moral and professional obligation to do a damn good job.
Thank you Zappy for stoking this deep reflection. May you be free from your earthly sufferings. RIP: 25 Sep 2020.

Meet Ralph! He has bilateral hip dysplasia and his owners have decided to get him started on conditioning to help slow down the rate of degeneration of the condition. He had a slight aversion and nervousness around the various equipment on his first session resulting from a prior experience elsewhere. Now on his second session, you could already see how much progress he has made through lots of positive associations, encouragement and low-stress handling - and most importantly, without any leash tugging or rough manhandling. The calibrated instability of the equipment will help Ralph improve lateral balance, strengthen hind limbs, and his overall core strength. We have seen a recent interest in a number of cavaletti work that owners are doing for their pets. So we decided to jump on the bandwagon and do something of our own. In our exercise, we were focussing on form and not speed. The reason we kept the poles close to each other is to encourage weight bearing across limbs and to work on proper gait. We have for you this week an exercise that will help with lateral balance, and will be useful in the real world when you walk Fido in different spaces such as bridges, tight boardwalks and platforms etc. Have a blast doing this!
Happy Labor Day! It’s no rest for @dagventures as we are excited to showcase our latest episode of Fido’s Fitness, presented jointly with ZumVet. We have over time received many queries especially on lower back muscle loss, and this will be a natural phenomena for most aging dogs. However, we can conservatively prevent degeneration if done right. Correct form is important in this exercise; if in doubt, always consult a professional as this may exacerbate potential underlying conditions. Have a go at this and show us what you did. Remember to go slow and progress only at your dog’s/cat’s pace.
