Dogs in their senior years can stay active too.

Here are some of our dogs in their golden years. Moderate exercise helps to slow down the advancement of arthritis and the deterioration of their muscles.

Our Day School program activities are beneficial for them physically and mentally.

The first step to an enjoyable walk for you and your dog is to check your leash and how you are holding it.

Easy peasy!

We can shape many behaviours through luring (teaching our learner to follow our hand), without the need of physical manipulation.

Teach your dog to follow you and walk on a loose leash.

And no, your dog do not have to heel beside you all the time!

21/04/2022

The shorter the leash, the less room there is for the dog to manoeuvre.

When your dog feels the tension on the leash pulling him back, he’d lean forward to pull against the pressure. This is called Opposition Reflex and is similar to when someone pushes you and you brace yourself automatically.

When you walk your dog with tension on the leash, you are actually encouraging the dog to pull on the leash. The more he pulls, the more he gets to go where he wants to.

To avoid unintentionally training your dog to pull, use a longer leash instead (1.5-2m). If there is no tension on the leash, there is nothing for the dog to pull against!

Teaching our puppies to enjoy being handled and restrained is part of socialisation too.

We want to teach them to love being touched instead of just tolerating the process.

Sometimes awesome treats and a little encouragement goes a long way.

The more we practice. The better we will get.

Are you using this kind of drinking bottle for your dog?

Here's some important information you should know on how dogs drink water.

Dogs lap / scoop up their water with their tongue curled backward. As they lap, they move their tongue very quickly to build up the momentum. That forces the water into a column and up into their mouth.

And this is also the reason why they are such messy drinkers! It is rare to find a dog drinking from their bowl and doesn't spill water on the floor.

Got into this dog training industry thinking, why not?! My passion be my career. I love dogs! They are fun and I’m happy to have them around. They keep me company and I enjoys the good times with them.

Little did I realise that there will come a time, when they grow old or sick and it will be my turn to keep them company, to walk them thru’ the last chapter of their life.

PACK WALKS may look cool but it is the worst idea ever.
It is an accident waiting to happen.

Owners are often impressed by the idea of their dog walking in line with so many other dogs, but for the dog it is often a very stressful experience. How would you like to walk cheek by jowl with people you barely know with no option of moving away?

The dogs are also usually walked on slip leashes that tightens around the neck when the dog gets out of position. In some cases, the dogs are also kicked when out of line.

Walking in a group is a great social activity but it must be done at the dog’s pace, allowing them to sniff and move away from the other dogs.

Pet expert Steve Dale explains why dog walkers walking with many dogs is never a good idea and may be unsafe

Are you able to get your dog to come to you when it is off leashed?

If not, don’t worry! You can start building the foundation to this important skill by practicing at home first.

The first thing to do is to protect your dog’s name. It is to be used only for good things. Each time you call the dog’s name it should be followed by a treat, a toy or whatever the dog likes.

Be careful with cuddles and pets though, because not all dogs like to be handled. And just saying “Good boy!” to the dog is not going to work either 😄.
