One night, someone brought their pet to us for a review and updated me that they had to bring their pet to another facility (I cannot give the name of that facility) on another day.

They complained.

They were really annoyed by the vet at this other facility.

I listened to the owner recap the unpleasant event.

During their unpleasant consultation, they felt that the vet there was not professional because he/she did not offer any options for their pet and did not want to attend to their pet - so the owner was very annoyed.

I took sides.

I took the owner’s side.
The vet sounded brash and seemed not in the right mindset to handle the situation (especially at the soul level).
It must be the work-related mental stress getting on to him/her.

I took the vet’s side.
The owner had too much anxiety and was ready to pounce on the vet because of personal distress and because he/she did not hear what he/she wanted.
It must be the caregiver's mental stress getting on to him/her.

A very typical clash, often witnessed in our industry.

So FAM, I want all of you to take a deep breath, step back and read my monologue.

Dear FAM,

I am sharing a summary (with references) of some reading I did for talks I had planned to do, before COVID descended on us, about probiotics and microbiomes of dogs and cats.

Our mandate has always been to improve absorption of the digestive system FIRST, then feed good and nutritious food - otherwise, the bioavailability of the food is not optimum (i.e. waste of money and time).

Global warming is real, FAM.
El Niño is pushing itself through our doors.
The weather has never been so disgustingly hot and sticky, and we can't make it cooler.

If you cannot do SC fluid therapy for your cats and dogs yet, you need to start your 'water parade' today.

Minimum 60ml per kg body weight per day.
Add water to your canned/ cooked food, make it like a porridge, and feed them.
Stop feeding dry kibbles - the furries just get more dehydrated.
Train them now.

^And no, air conditioning does not make anyone less dehydrated, it just makes everyone cold AND dehydrated.

Gently cooked and thinly sliced for my monster child.

She is allergic to chicken and beef, and can only eat pork and lamb.
So she regularly gets a variety of offals and meat cuts to get a boost in different micro and macronutrient.

I watched her eyes twinkling with contentment as she savoured her nose-to-tail cuisine.

I am glad we are both not squeamish about this lifestyle.

Sad to hear that many cats may need adoption with the closure of STC.

These STC cats are hunters.

Medical advice to our brood who may want to reach out to tame these hunters (as well as any other new/ rescued pets):

A) Quarantine for at least 14 days before introducing to your own pets (Very Very Important!)

B) Blood tests needed
1. Toxoplasmosis (esp those that hunts rats and birds, and hang out in the wild)
2. Leptospirosis (esp those that hunts rats and birds, and hang out in the wild)
3. FIV/FELV
4. At least a haematology and basic biochemistry (kidney, liver and glucose) panel

C) Parasite (internal and external) treatment
1. Intestinal worms treatment*
2. Fleas/ lice and furmites treatment*
* Full course needed

D) Spay/ neuter (if applicable)

E) Vaccine

F) Wear gloves when clearing litter boxes

G) No french kissing with them.

Oversoaked and overcooked a whole pot of organic quinoa. :(

Good thing my herbivorous dinosaurs are always ready and happy to help me solve my culinary mistakes.

*Quinoa - is a complete protein, meaning that it contains all nine essential amino acids that our human bodies cannot make. It is also naturally gluten-free and can be eaten safely if one has gluten intolerance such as celiac disease.
*To avoid causing tummy upset for your pet dinosaurs, soak the seeds overnight and rinse it thoroughly to get rid of the saponin and impurities before cooking.
^I added uncooked rye flakes, millets, oats, sesame seeds, flaxseeds (all organic) and mix veg (cooked) for my dinosaurs.
