Part 2: A Bittersweet Goodbye โ White Paw & Black Paw Return to the Wild ๐
After weeks of rehabilitative care, the time had come to release White Paw and Black Paw back in the wild where they belong.
Our team gathered under the moonlight, With hearts full of pride, mixed with a tinge of sadness in having to part with them, our team watched the two civets pause as the carrier door opened. With a flash of white and black paws, they leapt into the trees and disappeared into the night. ๐ฒ๐
As adorable as they are, wild animals belong in the wild. In addition to contributing to Singaporeโs diverse biodiversity and ecosystem, White Paw and Black Paw can now act upon their natural instincts to hunt, forage, and socialise with their own kind.
Wild animals belong in the wild. Providing them rehabilitative care is just as crucial as returning their freedom to be as they are, and where they belong.

Part 1: From Rescue to Rehab โ A Second Chance for Two Civets โค๏ธ
Every rescue tells a story of survival. This is the story of White Paw and Black Paw, two common palm civets.
Found weak and alone, our wildlife rescue team brought them into ACRES as two separate rescues. It marked the start of their long journey together. Though their tiny bodies were fragile, their spirits were unbroken.
Over the following weeks, our rehabilitation team ensured they were fed, enriched, and nurtured in a safe environment. Slowly but surely, they grew stronger, and their playful antics revealed the curious nature of these nocturnal creatures.
Their journey was more than just survival; it was preparation for the ultimate goalโreturning to the wild. Saying goodbye won't be easy.
Stay tuned for Part 2, where we share the bittersweet release of White Paw and Black Paw back into the night. ๐

It all started with a kind-hearted caller who heard something unusualโsoft, faint chirps from deep within a drain. Acting quickly, they reached out to our wildlife rescue hotline.
When our team arrived, we traced the chirps to a tiny jungle fowl chick deep in the drain. Time was of essenceโstranded chicks can get exhausted quickly and the mother could leave the spot soon. But thanks to the swift response and collaboration of the caller, we managed to carefully extract the little one and attempted in-situ release.
Once the mother responded to the chickโs calls, we placed the chick close to herโand within moments, we witnessed the magic ๐ถ
A simple act of attentiveness, combined with swift action, ensured this young jungle fowl got a second chance to thrive in the wild.

Buttercupโs Second Chance In The Wild
When we first met this beautiful reticulated python, Buttercup was entangled in strings, suffering from deep necrotic wounds infested with maggots. The pain and dehydration were overwhelming, but our Vet team was determined to give the snake a fighting chance.
Surgery was performed to remove the infected tissue and abscesses, and over 5 weeks, our vet team worked tirelessly, managing dehydration, infection, and more maggot infestations. Slowly but surely, Buttercup began to heal.
On release day, Buttercup had gained strength, good mobility and an additional 300 g since admission. With a microchip from ACRES, Buttercup was released back into the wild by NParks.
We are grateful for the opportunity to help animals like Buttercup and proud of the incredible team behind this recovery. ๐

MOM GOALS ๐โค๏ธ
Like human mothers, momma hens communicate with their unhatched babies in eggs, and the chicks inside the eggs communicate with their momma hen too to tell her whether it is too hot or cold! She clucks softly, and her chicks peep back to her from inside the egg. ๐ฅโจ
Just like us, they nurture, protect, and form deep bonds with their young. Check out this family who lives in the wild at ACRES grounds.
