Meet Scarlet 🔥
Scarlet escaped her tiny home in the Far West and went on a bold void deck adventure before arriving safely at HSS. This red-eyed, white-banded Syrian beauty is now slowly learning to trust and socialize.

She’s a gentle, cautious soul who startles easily and needs a patient, understanding companion. The best way to approach her? Ruffle the bedding nearby and hold out your hand — she’s always watching, even if she doesn’t come over right away. 👀

She’s not fussy with food, but has made her preferences clear: no to salmon, chicken, or tofu. Yes to crunchy snacks and veggie treats!

Things to note:
• Shy and easily startled — best approached gently and with patience
• Quiet and observant — may take time to warm up
• Never bites, but her intense stare might just read your soul 😮‍💨

Scarlet is full of quiet charm and potential. With the right person, she’ll blossom. She’s now looking for a calm, loving forever home 🐹❤️

Meet Momo 🍑
Momo is a peachy girl with a bold personality in her cage, but a total sweetheart once she’s out. She loves her food — especially Fatpouches seed mixes, mealworms, pine nuts, and sprays like flax and millet. She can clear a whole stalk in one night! 😤

Things to note:
• Not fond of hands in her cage — use the cup method or let her come out on her own
• Has had two UTIs (now cleared) — may be prone, so do watch for reddish p*e and seek vet care if needed

Momo is a beautiful, food-loving girl who just needs a little patience and understanding. She’s looking for a loving forever home 🐹💖

🚙💥 Meet Monster Truck—the original inspiration behind the car-themed crew! Part of a surrender of 8 hams, he showed his might the moment he stood on his back legs to p*er at his fosterer from a tiny, cramped cage he had to share. This wasn’t just any Syrian... this was a MONSTER TRUCK (dwarf) HAMSTER!!!

Yes, Truckie is HUGE (70+ grams!), but he’s just big-boned, okay? Not one for zoomies like his neighbour Vezel, Monster prefers the underground life—wiggling, digging, and burrowing like the Sandworms of Arrakis. But shake a snack container, and he’ll erupt from the tunnels like a furry, hungry dune beast.

He wears his past on his sleeve (or rather, his ear—with two little holes as souvenirs), but he doesn’t let it slow him down—not even when his fosterer smothers him in kisses and sniffs his surprisingly pleasant scent.

🧡 Bring this big boy home and shower him with treaties, boops, and all the love he deserves!

Miss Mama Vezel is finally a single woman—free to run to her heart’s content! Part of a surrender of 8 (eight!) hammies, she had only ever known life in a shared cage—with other hamsters, and later her 4 pups.

Named after all the sp*edy Grab drivers on the road, Vezel lives up to her name—this sp*ed demon clocks up to 3KM a night on her wheel! If you value your sleep, make sure it’s a silent one, because she stops for no human.

She was once terrified of her fosterer (screamed during her first clean-up!) but has since realised that ‘torture’ was a one-off. She still hates being flipped onto her back, but has learned to nibble rather than bite—curious little love bites when she’s intrigued or mildly annoyed. Wouldn’t you, if someone kept sticking fingers in your face?

Vezel is a little fatty lady, but there’s no need for body shaming when she outruns her fosterer every night. She’s blossomed into a cutie ball of ham—delightful to watch, hold, and sometimes even kiss.

We are back again with more hamster myths because misinformation hurts, and our little friends deserve better. Some things may look cute or seem harmless, but they can actually point to stress, discomfort, or unmet needs.

What words like “I bred and sold hamsters” can really mean.

Here’s what we’ve seen over the years:

-Hamsters packed in filthy plastic boxes, covered in their own waste.
-Mothers forced to breed nonstop, their babies dead beside them.
-Cancerous tumors the size of their heads, untreated and ignored.
-Missing limbs. Rotten skin. Eyeballs falling out or sealed shut with pus.
-Rescues pulled from rubbish bins, shoe boxes, food containers, and once, a Hai Di Lao paper bag.
-All from hoarding and backyard breeding cases. All real.

This is the reality behind “just selling a few pets.”
This is what happens when animals are treated like products.

Unlicensed breeding and selling of pets is illegal in Singapore.

So when MP Edward Chia Bing Hui publicly shares that he bred and sold hamsters at 10 years old, and frames it as the beginning of his entrepreneurial journey, it’s not something to celebrate. It’s something we need to talk about.

Animals are not products. Whether it’s hamsters, dogs, cats, rabbits, lives should never be reduced to $dollar$ signs. Breeding without a license isn’t just illegal. It’s irresponsible.

At Hamster Society Singapore, we rescue countless hamsters dumped in boxes, bins, with cancers and tumors and worse. Many of these cases come from irresponsible breeders, breeding animals without care, sold without screening, and abandoned when they’re no longer “cute” or convenient.

Entrepreneurship is important, but compassion and responsibility must come first, especially when lives are involved.

With polling day just around the corner, let’s be more thoughtful about the people we vote for. Should we be reinforcing outdated mindsets? Or should we be shaping a future that values compassion, ethics, and accountability?

Ask questions. Demand better. Animals, and our society, deserve it.

[UP FOR ADOPTION] When he is not busy living his best sand life, Countach is a food loving machine. He gobbles up everything from pine nuts to mealworms to vegetables. While he is not a huge fan of sprays, he will still nibble on them occasionally. Guess even desert dwellers have their picky days!

He is a little shy but super easy to find because he rarely changes hiding spots. If you need to check on him just look where you last saw him. He is probably still there plotting his next sand adventure...
