There are no cases of H5N1 (bird flu) in Singapore. Human infections with the bird flu virus are rare.

If you intend to travel to countries with cases of avian influenza, you should adopt the following good hygiene practices to minimise your risk of acquiring the disease:
• Avoid contact with live poultry and birds, especially for children
• Avoid crowded areas and stay in places with good ventilation
• Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after handling live poultry and birds, and after coughing and sneezing.

What is that spot on my eggs? 👀🕵️🔎

Blood spots are a natural part of the egg laying cycle and is not a food safety concern. 🥚

The spots are remnants of a ruptured blood vessel that occurred during the egg's formation. Most often, the ruptured vessel forms a tiny speck or dot of blood with a dark red or brown hues.

Other than not using fresh eggs, a commonly touted method is dunking the eggs into ice cold water. Let the eggs sit in the cold water bath for 5 minutes, and the shell will be less likely to stick to the membrane 🔎👀🕵🧐

Fresh eggs are harder to peel, as the shell membrane and the albumen more likely to stick together! 🥚

So to get the perfectly smooth boiled eggs, do keep your eggs for a few days before turning them into yummy boiled eggs.🥰👩‍🍳

The colour of the yolk is derived from the natural colouring of the feed. A diet high in corn🌽will bring about yellow yolks and a diet higher in wheat 🌾will result in paler yolks.

This occurs when the hens releases two yolks in the same shell. These eggs are perfectly safe to eat and it is also said to bring good luck when you find one! 🌈👀🍀
