The average house bunny life span is between 8 -14 years and they are considered senior by 5-8 years.

They are prey animals and tend to hide their illness so senior rabbits need to have regular vet visits with a rabbit savvy vet, so that health issues can be discovered early.

Their health issues can be quite serious
- dental disease
-mobility issues
-kidney disease
-cancer
-cardiac disease

How to take care of your senior dog:

1. Provide Physical Activity - to maintain muscle mass and overall health💪

2. Schedule Regular Canine Health Checkups - schedule 2 vet visits per year for blood work🐶👩‍⚕️🩺

3. Assist with Their Mobility -As dogs age, their mobility can become limited, making certain activities more challenging. Tools like dog support slings and harnesses can provide the necessary support they require. 👩‍🦼

4. Optimize Their Sleeping Spots -As they grow older, their bones and joints can become more sensitive. An orthopedic bed can offer them the cushioning and support they need. A good night's sleep can improve mobility and relieve pain.🛏

5. Make Home Modifications - Non-slip carpeting or introducing well-fitted dog socks can significantly improve traction, reducing the risk of slips and falls. Elevated dog bowls not only aid in comfortable eating but can also promote better digestion. Consider increasing the number of water bowls around your home to ensure your senior dog stays hydrated.💦

Small dogs: 11 – 12 years of age
Medium-sized dogs: 10 years of age

Keeping your rabbits cool is so important with this terrible heat we've been experiencing.🐰🔥 Fresh bowls of water are essential for beating the heat and did you know that rabbits will drink more from a bowl than a bottle?🥣 vs 🍶 There should be more than 1 bowl and make sure the water is changed at least twice daily. A ceramic bowl is the best type to use to avoid tipping over. General post -op care of surgical incisions: 1) Pets should not be allowed to go outside for 10-14days following the procedure 2)Do not allow jumping or other strenuous activities, especially in the first few days following the procedure 3)Cage rest or confinement to a small room may be recommended 4)Do not bathe the pet or allow the incision to get wet 5)Never clean with peroxide or alcohol as this may delay healing. This sweet baby did very well after her spay and came in to remove her sutures 14 days later.
