TRINIDAD CASE

Someone sent the following this morning:

"Hey Good Morning
Yesterday l saw about 6 pupies dumped in the Massey Land Road in a heap of garbage just before the bridge when entering from the Reform Village entrance. l couldn't help at the moment but l fed my lunch to them. They were scared at first but surrounded me after wagging their tails. Can you help them please."

For a while now it has not been possible to access private messages sent on the Venus Doggess Of Love page. When I click, I see this blank screen. I was able to access via the phone, however. Can anyone with tech-know-how suggest why this blank screen may be happening on the laptop? Thanks.

HERCULES AND SCARLET ADOPTED TOGETHER

How could I have forgotten to mention . . . in the week leading up to 16 November 2025, Hercules and Scarlet were adopted together by the Uncle of a veterinarian friend in Trinidad.

After being hit by a vehicle in Crown Point, Hercules was rescued by an animal lover in Tobago a few months ago. He spent a long time being fostered in a household that originally said they could only foster for a weekend. But with no one else coming forward to foster, no one adopting and not wanting to send him to the shelter, they had no choice but to make it work as best as they could.

Scarlet was a tiny pup running around in the road with her mum outside of Waves Restaurant. One evening a friend and I went for a drink and, scared that she would get crushed by a vehicle, we took her away. She was fostered by a friend for a few weeks until adoption.

Glad that these two have each other and hope that their relationship blossoms and that their home is a happy one.

VIDEO OF MAN IN ROUGH WATERS DASHING DOG INTO WAVES AND AGAINST SEA WALL.

I will not share the video that a friend sent to me yesterday ... I could barely look beyond the first few seconds which showed very rough waters in Roxborough, Tobago and a man being thrashed about in the tempest, apparently slamming against the wall.

At first I thought it was just him damaging himself ... but when I saw him lift a small dog out of the water and pelt it, I had to stop watching. It was so crazy and violent! I shudder to think of what that poor animal was enduring and I wonder if he/she even survived that brutal treatment.

Some people in the comments said the man was probably on drugs. Whether or not he was, he needs to be found and dealt with accordingly!

Furthermore, who was the person filming and what did he/she do about it?

Did anyone from the area recognize the man as being from their village?

People who abuse animals in that manner, whether of sane or crazy mind, should not be walking free in society where more harm can be done, sometimes unexpectedly. Proper and timely mental health intervention ... enforcement of laws ... etc. . . . These things must be a part of the national plan.

"I WOULD NEVER DO THAT TO MY FURBABY" SYNDROME.

Quite often on social media (as I saw just now on a post) a 'pet parent' may be seeking a good home for his/her pet. Quite often this is because the person is migrating and cannot take the pet(s).

In the post I just saw, I gleaned that the person really loved his pet and he seemed very genuine in the search.

The hatred and attacks spewed on such people in comments is sometimes shocking to me—especially when the pet parent is clearly making concerted efforts to find a great home for the pet. It is not like they are carelessly dumping the pet at the roadside before flying off.

The phrase— "I would never do that to my furbaby!" — comes across as being judgmental. Rehoming of a beloved pet is a very personal matter. Your choice/your reason is your choice/your reason. Their choice/their reason is their choice/their reason.

We must understand that different people do different things for different reasons!

When such adoption-due-to-migration messages pop up on social media, do not waste time bashing and attacking the pet parent because it is not something you would do. He/she will not change their migration plans just because you don't approve.

The ONLY important thing to consider is the well-being of the animal. The time and energy wasted in bashing is better spent on sharing the post, contacting people you know are animal lovers, or even considering if you are a valid adoption candidate, and reaching out accordingly.

TOBAGO—LOOK OUT FOR LARGE WHITE DOG WITH BIG HOLE WHERE RIGHT EYE IS/WAS.

In the past 2 days a few people reported to me that there is a large white dog in the Bon Accord/Canaan area with a massive hole in his face where the right eye was.

He is apparently skeletal and is a larger than a normal size dog. Not sure what breed he is or if he is an unusually large mixed breed/pothound.

This morning someone told me she saw him by the Shirvan roundabout. About 20 min later a friend and I went there in search of him and drove around for about 30 min or more ... to no avail. No sign of him.

If spotted, please be aware that he needs immediate help. He is very weak. Try your best to secure him and take him to the nearest veterinarian.

Calling to say that an animal is in X or Y place does not mean he will be there when someone goes to look for him.

We need more people who will actually pick up dogs and carry them to the vet.

Rescuing animals must be a greater collective effort. There are too many out there for a few to deal with.

TWO KITTENS FOR ADOPTION—AND A MESSAGE TO THOSE WHO DUMP ANIMALS.

Two cute kittens dumped at the fence of a friend in Tobago. The vet said they are about 6 weeks old. She is seeking loving homes/home for them ... asap. Please call her at +1 (868) 733-2027 if interested.

STOP DUMPING ANIMALS!

People who dump animals are most likely not following this page ... but even if they were and read what I just wrote in all caps, they would probably laugh, say "Wh'appen to she?" and go and dump more animals.

In their eyes, dumping them outside of the fence of a known animal lover was probably their way of being kind. But no ... it is not. It places the animal lover in a position of increased expense (vet bills, food, etc), expense of extra time and also a level of stress as she tries to find good homes for them in a society where it is already hard to find good homes for any animal!

Please have consideration for animals AND for people!

Save up your money and spay/neuter your animals so that overpopulation is not the issue that it is now.

To those who say irresponsible things like "Oh gosh, I just want her to have one litter! Kittens/puppies are so cute!"

Overpopulation is not cute! Dumping is not cute!

Love changes lives

Venus Doggess of Love NGO (Non profit organisation) is creating better lives for Tobago’s dogs and cats (and sometimes other species) through rescue work and humane education. Venus rescues and rehabilitates homeless animals, spays/neuters and rehomes them to safe, loving homes (local and foreign). As a currently small scale operation, VDL is more about animal rescue quality (highly personalized attention and care) than mass quantity. A lot of the rescue work is made possible through case-specific donations from kind followers of the VDL page, offline donations and fundraising ventures.

On a voluntary basis, Venus invests time and energy in: (i) Rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals (ii) producing films, photographs and written material to educate, raise awareness, promote compassion or encourage fostering/adoption of rescued animals.

In Tobago, the dogs and cats (homeless, underprivileged and owned-but-neglected) are in crisis. Unless there is intervention, animals roam the streets and beaches, mating throughout life, putting stress on their bodies and contributing to rampant overpopulation. Many owned dogs are tied on short chains in the elements (scorching heat, rain) with little or no shade, often without basic needs like food and water. One wonders if there is awareness of their existence as living, sentient beings. Many are not touched or spoken to. Names are often simply “Dog” or “Cat”, so there is no acknowledgment of each animal being an individual with inherent enough value to be given a name. It is as if they are invisible. And these are the simple issues. The more extreme problems involve unthinkable abuse and rampant poisoning with no recourse/enforcement from the existing, but very weak, local laws against animal cruelty.

Venus Doggess Of Love cares about animals and cannot stand to see them suffer. Venus Doggess Of Love is committed to ensuring the best life for as many animals as possible. Thank you for your support.
