Hello again everyone, it sure has been a while! I hope you're all doing as well as I am.
If there's one thing I see a lot when it comes to my feline patients, it's wounds sustained during fights with other cats. Territorial behavior and roaming is part of a cat's nature, especially for sexually mature males that have the ever-present drive to "sow their wild oats."
This can lead to scraps with other rowdy males causing abscesses, sepsis, maggot infestations, damaged/lost eyes, major blood loss or debilitating viral diseases.
One piece of advice I'd give to any would-be cat parent is to neuter your little one! This by no means completely eliminates the chance of getting into fights, but drastically reduces roaming and aggression.
It also has the benefit of reducing unplanned litters, eliminating urine marking and increasing your kitty's lifespan!
