We at Cream Paws want to take a moment to remember Sox, one of the first clients on our dog grooming roster. Sox was a grumpy old soldier who didn't let his age stop him from being a spicy guardian of his home and a big cuddly teddy bear to his human family. He was so tolerant of his over-active GSD baby sister. A fixture in the household, as solid and reliable as the oldest tree. We all miss you already Sox and hope you rest easy, across the rainbow bridge 🌈🐾

Let's do a quick Old Year's check-in!

We know that fireworks can be stressful for our furry friends. Here's one thing I make sure to have on hand for my dogs before the fireworks really get cracking: a Kong that's been frozen for a few hours (that has some kibble and peanut butter inside).

I'll be popping anxiety jackets on my dogs and crating them in the early evening. At that time, I'll be giving them these treats.

Prior to crating, I'll be doing the following enrichment activities with them:

• Short training session
• Something that involves them sniffing/tracking
• A good play session

The aim of the game is to get them mentally stimulated and to tire them out as much as possible. The more energy we channel into these fun activities, the less they have available to put towards freaking out over the fireworks.

I crate my dogs to keep them safe. As mentioned in previous posts, a crate is like a den for our dogs. It is a safe space, not a punishment. Plus, a dog that is safely crated in an appropriate place will not be a lost dog on New Years Day.

While in their crates, they can't run around and accidentally get scratches/cuts/etc (which are more possible with a dog in high drive/stress, as they may not be paying attention to what's around them while moving). Add in, by stopping them from running around, we also stop them from aggravating their stress by keeping their drive high through physical activity. A towel over the crate can be used to reduce the sound and lights of the fireworks - I also play some music that could soothe the dogs and/or try to drown out the fireworks sounds.

Everything comes together to seek to minimise the stress my dogs have to endure through the night. It's difficult to make it 100% stress-free, when one of my dogs is particularly sound-reactive; but, we do our best.

All of us at Cream Paws hope that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable Old Years Night!

To all of our followers and clients,

Please note the following updates in price, which will take effect on the following dates:
November 14th - training, walking, delivery rates
November 28th - grooming and dogsitting

(As the holiday season rushes upon us, we wanted to give our clients planning their pups' grooming and holiday care as much time as possible to make any changes/decisions, as necessary.)

Please note that the flea/tick fee, while listed under grooming, will be applied to ALL jobs Cream Paws staff undertake. Whether grooming, training, walking, or dogsitting, we frequently are going from one client's location directly to another and cannot risk our clothing/equipment/persons becoming a means of contaminating another client's space/dogs. We appreciate all clients working with us by ensuring that your dogs are up-to-date with their flea/tick treatments. If fleas/ticks are found on your pet during one of our services, the Flea/Tick Fee will be applied.

Additionally, we are moving from our flat delivery fee to a distance-based fee. The lowest fee for an area will be applied; please feel free to reach out for clarification (we have a more detailed map available; it just isn't easily read when resized for social media).

We thank you all for your understanding and continuing to choose Cream Paws for your canines' needs!

Many of our furry friends are enjoying this wet weather a whole lot more than their bipedal family members! After they've had their fun getting as muddy as possible, Cream Paws comes in to get them looking as regal as they're supposed to! (Though, it's up to those bipedal family members to try and dissuade them from finding their favourite muddy puddles right away 😉😂)

Announcement: due to the upcoming increase in fuel prices, Cream Paws has had to adjust prices for all services as of Monday, 18th April, 2022. We've been holding off on raising prices for as long as we could, even as the pandemic hit the supply chains hard and caused many prices in life, in general, to edge upwards. At this time, especially with our services all being mobile, we've found ourselves pushed to making these adjustments. We thank all of our existing and prospective clients for their understanding and for continuing to call on us for their canine's needs!

We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Easter weekend! (Don't worry, I'm sure a cute fluffy post will follow as a proper Easter post.)

Oh hey, there's two of us now!

The Cream Paws team has expanded which means we can offer more options for dog food delivery time slots, more dog walks, more dogsitting availability, and sooner appointments for doggy baths (The Basics grooming package)!

Give Josh a WhatsApp or call on +1-868-324-1153 for queries about dog food sales!

Or give Karin a WhatsApp on +1-868-792-9288 all other queries 🙂 We'll direct you as appropriate for your canine's needs (but really, please specifically contact Karin for grooming appointments).

Also, I am honestly a little (a lot) jealous that Josh's cards look so much better than mine because took care of the design and print for them... Versus my 100% amateur design done on Vistaprint. I know where I'm getting my next set of cards!

09/03/2022

Frequently do we hear the phrase "My dog won't let me do that" - especially with regards to grooming or some other activity that requires us to touch the dog's body.

However, let's reframe it. We know why we NEED to brush our dog's coat, put on their collar, touch their paws... They may not understand WHY we are doing these things, but we can create the habits of doing them regularly... and, thus, it just becomes a part of life. Like getting a treat for sitting on command.

Dogs learn the patterns and structures that we consistently maintain with them. And really, think about it: I'm sure every single one of us kicked up a fuss about brushing our teeth, brushing our hair, or bathing as a small child. Did our parents let us get away with refusing to develop habits of basic hygiene? I'd hope not! They would've helped us to create the habits that allow us to maintain our health and wellness through to our adulthood. Our dogs may not develop the same autonomy in grooming themselves - but we can apply the same rationale. Whether or not they understand why they have to calmly accept grooming and being handled as part of life, we need to create those habits for them to continue to have a safe, healthy, and happy life ahead of them.

Just one example: dogs who are allowed to refuse to have their coats brushed as frequently as necessary (or specific body parts, such as their legs) end up with matted fur. Now, we're looking at not just aesthetic problems but potentially health and wellness being affected. (Cream Paws will be making a post about the effects of matting in the future for further details.) Forming the habit of regular brushing of the coat, whether or not the dog is immediately happy about it, helps is to looks after their coat and their wellbeing.
