Supporting the wellness of our community has always been our top priority✨

When more conversations started popping up around dengue fever we knew we wanted to do something that could undeniably contribute to safeguarding our health in this season.

I remember some years ago, my brother in the hospital with dengue fever, platelets count dangerously low, my mother distraught. Her distress was short lived, she remembered an elder telling her about pawpaw leaves and how they can help with dengue. So….she trusted in the earth and her medicine. She began taking pawpaw leaf tea for him daily and within a week he was out of the hospital and prepared to take his physical to join the army. I’m happy to say that he is a soldier today, strong as ever! Why did we take so long to bring this together🤷🏾‍♀️.

Paired with ganoderma, considered an elixir of life in traditional Chinese medicine, we knew this would be potent medicine that our people were in dire need of🌞

The beautiful thing about pawpaw leaves though is that there are so many useful applications for it and it pairs perfectly with amaurodema!

We’ve been using this tincture daily and sharing it with our little ones because we having rel mosquitoes right now😭 but this has bolstered our confidence, giving us comfort in a time of communal despair😉

We’re on the struggle bus with these king oysters fam😂

We were so excited about fruiting these but as you can see…..it isn’t giving kings nah! Though the size isn’t impressive, the density of these are! I can only imagine how wholesome these would be when we finally figure them out in our environment. Remember these mushrooms all have their own personalities, with very defined likes and dislikes. Sometimes it requires some tinkering to get the most out of them.

We did about 20 king oyster bags but it seems we erred in some way along the journey. All is not lost though, we have some ideas for amending them, so fingers crossed 🤞🏾

Aside from taking care of our family, getting into mushroom cultivation was also a way to enrich our community. It has been a long held goal of ours to get mushroom cultivation into our local schools. So, when an officer from the Ministry of Education approached us with the desire to start a school initiative around mushroom cultivation, it was an easy yes for us.

Yesterday was the first of many school visits to come with the intention of inspiring young minds. This is the students at Moruga Secondary School, learning how to grow mushrooms and getting a practical run of actually putting a mushroom bucket together.

We are so grateful for the opportunity to do this work! Contributing to food security and inspiring the coming generation to be innovators are what we consider to be big wins in our book.

Now we excitedly anticipate the fruiting of their mushrooms. There is a small cash prize for the group whose bucket fruits first. Excitement!!!!!

Been loving the shelf life on these babies🥰

These Floridas have been doing so well in the refrigerator. We can safely say that these can last for up to two (2) weeks in the refrigerator with no problem.

We love to see (and eat) it.

This is mycelium growing on agar, creating what is called in the cultivation world, a culture. Each culture has proven to be unique in its growth.

The differences are equally as beautiful in their manifestation. Sometimes, within the hyphae structures, we can see oceans, waves crashing, sun rays, stars shining bright. I dare say, all of nature can be witnessed in mycelial growth. It is simply amazing, mind blowing actually, how mycelium grows as a work of art reflecting nature!

This is organic technology at its finest.

They look yummy but what do they taste like? Are they just as yummy?

Though the pink oyster mushroom loses its color when cooked, the flavor intensifies when faced with heat. Many mushroom lovers say that pink oysters offer a sort of bacon or ham like flavor when cooked. They do really well with eggs or stir fried.

The princess pearls can give you some really dense and meaty caps. These are said to have a more subtle seafood flavor, similar to the Floridas. It is also often described as sweet and woodsy in its taste profile. You can pan-fry them, add them to your tacos or homemade gyro.

We also took into consideration reviews we’ve received from previous fruiters while pulling it together. We really do want you to have an enjoyable and successful fruiting.

When we see your fruits, it brings us so much joy and a sense of contentment. When you aren’t successful, for whatever reason, it weighs heavily on us.

So I beg you; please read the guide and follow our tips before your commence your mushroom adventure in earnest. By doing this you will greatly increase your success rate, which would make not only make you happy but us as well🌞

We’ve been quiet here because so much is happening in real time.

We’ve welcomed a new member to our family, we’ve learned new techniques to make the process easier, we’re finding more local resources to utilize in our operation, we’ve had some issues with our fruiting chamber😔, we’ve been hit pretty hard with some contamination in our lab, we need more money to push the business forward😭. It’s a lot but we continue to grow.

On another note though, we have so much mushrooms fruiting in our chamber (even though it needs a serious facelift) and we’ve made preparations for end of year mushroom gifting and pastelle making😁.

We had some extra spawn so we decided to do some Princess Pearl and Florida mushroom grow bags.

It’s amazing how the different personalities of mushrooms can be seen even in their individual culture.

This is a wood ear culture that we’ve been cleaning up. We’re thinking about making one more transfer before putting it to spawn. This culture is distinctive from an oyster mushroom culture.

We continue to learn interesting things about these entities as we continue to deepen our relationship with them through their cultivation. We give thanks🌞

We’ve been using our spent blocks to rehabilitate our soil in our garden.

The soil around our property has been depleted due to consistent cane farming in the past. We’ve been putting back mycelium into the soil by spreading spent substrate all over the floor of the garden. I can safely say, it is beginning to take shape and the mycelium is making its presence known. With the rains we’ve been seeing oyster mushrooms popping up all over our property.

Can’t say we’re not enjoying it!

Kept these to collect their spores.

We really want to start our new batch of lion’s mane using spore prints to get a more locally adapted variety. We don’t take for granted how intelligent and sensitive mushrooms are. So we’re doing the lab work to culture them, helping them get acclimated to our local environment.

All of the mushrooms we’ve included in this tincture is supportive to your wellness in some way.

The lion’s mane for instance, has been studied for its neuroprotective effect toward oxidative stress. Studies have suggested that the trametes species may have antioxidative potential. Lastly, oyster mushrooms have shown to be beneficial in lowering glucose and cholesterol in diabetic subjects.

This tincture is not a cure by any means. Instead, we encourage you to use it as a supplement along with any other healing modality that’s already a part of your wellness arsenal.

Oyster mushrooms contain a fair amount of protein, more dietary fiber than chicken, more folate than chicken, comparable potassium, more carbohydrates than chicken and less saturated fat!

Well we’re making arrangements with a distributor (💃🏾) which would make this whole process easier. In the past it has been really challenging for us to do all the work of growing and then also, do the work of delivering. You see, we’re based in South Trinidad and many of our requests come from the North/East West corridor so…….right!?

Chris has been harvesting small amounts of #Bacano. Small amounts only because we don’t yet have a van that would allow us to #transport large quantities. There is so much #abundance in Trinidad and I feel extremely #grateful for that. Also, Bacano is such a powerful #ally! We can make use of its leaves and bark as #medicine.
