**UPDATE** Sadly, our team of vets arrived too late. The donkey we came for had been sold for slaughter as he was no longer useful to the village. We are so sad to share this devastating news.

This poor donkey suffered severe chemical burns to its body while working in a Tanzanian gold mine. It was then abandoned by it's owner. Our team of vets is responding to the emergency and will transport it 3 hours to Mwanza to receive critical medical care. Once it is healed, it will travel to West Tanzania to live the rest of its life out at a donkey sanctuary. PLEASE consider donating to this important work. Concerns Regarding the Mwanza Stray Dogs Project and Collaborative Opportunities

Dear African street Dog animal rescue

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to address some recent developments that have come to our attention and express our concerns regarding the establishment of a separate organization purportedly aimed at aiding animals in Mwanza.

It has come to our notice that there are intentions to establish an organization by seeking donations from well-meaning individuals abroad. While we appreciate any effort to help animals in need, we believe that collaboration is crucial for achieving our shared goal of animal welfare in Mwanza. The Mwanza Stray Dog and Rescue Center, under the leadership of Boaz and Dr. Mbululo, has been actively working to make a positive impact in our community. Additionally, organizations like Nasizm Veterinary and Lake Zone Animal Welfare (LAWAZO) led by Dr. Zacharia have been valuable contributors to this cause.

Since 2018, Mwanza stray dog and Animal Rescue Centre Foundation (MSDRSF) have rescued and rehabilitated over 1000 of Mwanza's orphaned, abandoned and abused animals. However, the number of distressed street animals in need continues to grow. With your support, we hope to continue to protect street animals across the city. Challenge
Tanzania is home to a large population of street animals that receive little to no medical attention throughout their lives and often live in deplorable conditions. Many animals are also subjected to abuse in the hands of human beings. We believe every animal deserves to be treated with love and respect. Essentials like saline, antibiotics, vaccinations, tonics and supplements as well as medical equipment like surgery materials, x rays and blood analyses are expensive but essential and life saving.
Solution
Trauma care is at the heart of our work. We take in 20 distressed animals every month that are brought in from the streets either through our car service or from people who have rescued them. 90% of the animals that come in are in life threatening conditions. Our team of dedicated volunteers vets and carers tend to these animals, provide them with life saving medical treatment and love so that they recover to be happy and healthy! Some of our animals are even put up for adoption!
Long-Term Impact
We believe that every animal deserves the best, whether they live in our homes as pets or on the street. Your support will allow us to continue to provide injured, abused or neglected street animals with a safe place to receive the best medical attention that often only house pets have access to. There are thousands of homeless dogs living on the streets of mwanza, many of them sick, injured, or starving. Mwanza stray dog Animal Rescue works to implement a humane prevention program called ABC (animal birth control, sterilization and vaccination) along with animal rescue and adoption programs. The lack of government support for this issue, the amount of dogs, and rabies killing humans (approx 20k per year) creates the human/street dog conflict that exists today.

Mwanza stray dog and Animal Rescue's mission is to end the human/street dog conflict by creating a humane and sustainable environment for animals with direct benefits to the people of Mwanza, Tanzania. We provide several key programs to achieve our goals: spay/neuter, rabies vaccination, rescue and adoption, and community education for rabies safety and compassion. Long-Term Impact
Our vision: We strive to create a community where the people realize that the stray animal population can be managed with compassion and education. With mass sterilization and rabies vaccination programs we can create a healthy sustainable population of dogs. Through education and community interaction, we can teach people how to be kind to street dogs even they are afraid of them, eradicate rabies, and increase adoptions.
Help 10 rescues a month with a Recurring Donation
Summary
Help us monthly to pay for fuel for our van, x-rays and blood work, emergency surgeries, splints, administering daily treatments, providing nutrition and give lots of love to the dogs we rescue from the streets. We receive numerous calls to rescue dogs that have been hit by cars, are suffering from mange, horrible wounds, tick fever, or have been abused. Monthly donations of up to $2000 or $24000 individual donations will cover the basic needs for us to continue to help!
Challenge
Tanzania has the highest numbers of stray dogs in the world at an approximated 35 million. Tanzania also has the highest amount of human deaths by rabies. 95% of the time this is the result of a dog bite. Rabies is 100% preventable. This leads to human/street dog conflict resulting in lack of care or concern for the dogs living on the street. Each month we receive calls to help sick, injured, and abused dogs. By donating, you are giving these animals a good shot of survival.
Solution
Recurring donations help us run. There is no other way to put it. The only way we can plan for the future is if we know we have funds coming in every month to buy medicine, pay for fuel, purchase food, pay salaries to our local vets and vet assistants. By having the security of monthly donations, we never have to say no to a rescue call in mwanza.
Long-Term Impact
The only way to solve the longterm problem of human/street dog conflict which causes many dogs in need of rescue is to continue our spay/neuter program and our education program in schools. Currently, due to Covid 19, our sterilization program is not running at full functionality and our school program is on hold. For now, and for many years to come, street dogs in need of rescue will be an issue, but by contributing monthly, having what is needed to help, will not be.

Time Commitment: 10-15 hrs/month

Animal Transport
Responsibilities: Transport volunteers use their personal vehicles to transport animals and/or supplies (i.e. rescue pick up, chauffeuring animals to/from medical or therapy visits, or helping with special event transport). Travel is primarily in the MWANZA area.

Requirements: Must have a reliable vehicle that is licensed and insured; the vehicle must have enough space for kennelled animals. Requires a valid driver’s license.

Time Commitment: Best suited for a flexible schedule.

Foster Parent
Responsibilities: Responsible for the daily care of a foster animal, including feeding, exercising, playtime, socialization, grooming, reinforcing basic obedience commands and, of course, providing patience, love and security. MSDRFC will provide all necessary medical care and our Foster Teams will provide full support throughout the foster period. You may also need to transport the foster animal to medical appointments and/or adoption events/photo shoots.

Requirements: Love and patience! A fenced yard is preferred, but not necessary for dog foster parents.
