Голова короткая, небольшого размера, может быть вытянута в продольном или поперечном направлении. Глаза крупные, часто с выемкой на переднем крае. Усики различной длины, изредка длиннее головы, состоят из 8—11 члеников, прикрепляются по бокам переднего края головы и способны подгибаться под голову. Конец усика резко расширен и образует утолщение — булаву. Форма последнего и предпоследнего члеников булавы усиков у разных родов бывает различной, что учитывается при идентификации видов.
