Whether they are young or old, big or small, it was our decision. We knew what we were getting into... No one forced us, we just wanted it that way. We knew we would be 'tied' one way or another. No more distant holidays, but caring for them, feeding them and walking them. It doesn't matter what the weather is or whether we feel like it... We have promised that as long as they are with us, we will give them everything, we will take care of them and that if they are sick we will take them to the go doctor. We also knew that all our clothes would be covered in animal hair...
We're not saying it's always easy, but it's more than worth it. And we can't really be angry with them...
The things can be replaced, the carpet can be cleaned, our clothes can be washed.
What cannot be replaced, however, are the sparkling eyes that are so happy to see us when we get home. It doesn't matter if we've been gone for 5 minutes or 5 hours. The affection and unconditional love are also irreplaceable. The moments when we are in a bad mood and they come to us with their cold noses and faithful eyes...
You don't even notice it, but the years still fly by. At some point their faces turn gray, their movements slow down and the light from their once sparkling eyes disappears. We probably go to the doctor more and more and we clean up the 'accidents' again...
But we agreed because that's what we wanted too. We wanted childhood, youth and old age with all its beauties, moments of happiness and even the worst days. There is not a single moment that we regret. We took responsibility for them when we adopted them into our family, until the day we have to let them go. Our animals do not end up in the shelter, we will not move if they cannot come with us. They are part of our lives and families and will continue to be so. From the first to the last day.
A pet is not for a while but for life.
