My opinion as a breeder's dog handler with 10 years of experience regarding experimental cat breeds.
Namely, bambinos, elves, dwarves.
This is not accepted in cynology.
To cross breeds. This stage has long been behind us, about 200 years (peak) ago, when there was a need to breed new hunting and herding dogs.
There is no such need in the 21st century, so all those who make experiments, for example, on combining poodles and bolonkas to get the famous "maltipas" are not engaged in breeding, but rather commercial work, offering very expensive mixes.
But in the world of felinology, everything is completely different.
Can you imagine that there are only 43-44 cat breeds (53 in TICA).
This is very few compared to the more than 400 dog breeds.
Why?
Because cats have not been bred as hard as dogs over the centuries.
There was no need, the cat did not herd flocks of sheep, did not accompany the owner on hunting, and did not participate in animal fights that were fashionable a couple of centuries ago. And the cat did not guard the house, except from mice and evil spirits....
There was no need to fix new natural mutations and develop interesting cat breeds. And how many cool breeds could have emerged...
Until the cat became a reliable companion on a par with the dog in the 2nd half of the 20th century.
Felinology began to develop actively not on a commercial basis, but simply because there was finally a need for a purebred cat as a pet.
Why do dachshunds and basset hounds have the right to exist, but bambinos, machinas, and dolphins do not?
This is a natural mutation that has finally been fixed.
To improve the health of the sphynxes, the blood of fluffy cats was added and voila, we got such interesting, extraordinary cats with a good backbone, a special breed temperament and clear breed standards that we could not resist their cuteness and fun.
Felinologists have a separate group for breeding new breeds - the experimental group (again, I emphasise that cynology does not have such a thing, it is simply outside the classification, but it is not quite the same). We are witnessing the development of new cat breeds right before our eyes. In different parts of the world, cats are born with interesting natural mutations that no one paid attention to before, and now finally such cats are valuable in breeding new ones and improving the existing ones.
