Manul has a rather peculiar appearance. The manul has short and thick legs, and the body as a whole looks massive due to the lush fur. The tail is evenly broad and fluffy, with a rounded tip. The head of the manul is small, spherical in shape, tufts of long hair grow on the cheeks - sideburns. The ears are small, rounded, set low and set wide apart. The eyes are large, close and high set.

Kittens are born in the spring, in the litter most often 3-4 kittens, which by 4-5 months become independent and leave their mother.
The manul was first described in 1776 by Peter Simon Pallas. The species is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, but in the past it had a near vulnerable status; in addition, the species is included in the Red Books of various countries. Some populations are threatened by poaching, prey reduction due to rodent control programs, and habitat fragmentation due to anthropogenic factors. The manul has been studied rather poorly due to its secrecy and rarity.
