1. SANITATION- Poultry houses should be completely cleaned and disinfected before new birds are moved in. Th e following steps will result in a clean house.

1. Take all movable equipment outside of the house. Clean off the manure, and wash and disinfect the equipment. Expose the equipment to sunlight.
2. Clean all of the manure and litt er out of the house.
3. Sweep down the walls and ceilings.
4. Scrape and brush the fl oor clean.
5. Scrub and hose the inside and outside of the house using high pressure. A portable steam cleaner can be used for this operation.
6. Spray the inside of the house with an approved disinfectant. specifically chose Viruchoc disinfectant because of its advantages over others!
Spray should be applied to all the surfaces of the walls, ceiling, and fl oor. Do not spray the disinfectant into waterers or feeders. VIRUCHOC is a good disinfectant because it kills gumboro, Newcastle, ib, coccidiosis etc
7. Use new, clean, dry, nondusty litt er on the fl oor.
8. Leave the house empty for 2 weeks to break disease cycles.
9. Lock the door to prevent people from entering and contaminating the clean house.
Insofar as possible, do not allow visitors to enter poultry houses, pens, and yards. Clean coveralls and disinfected rubber footwear should be worn by anyone who must enter the poultry area. Place a foot pan with disinfectant in it at the door, to be used before entering. Replace the disinfectant in the pan frequently.
Use only clean and disinfected equipment. Be cautious about allowing used poultry crates, egg cases, and feed bags to be brought onto the farm. Th ese can spread diseases.
All dead birds must be disposed of promptly. Use of incinerators, composting, or deep burying are recommended for disposal of dead birds. Be sure that disposal methods meet NEMA regulations.
Dispose of manure by spreading it thinly on land that is not used for poultry. Do not put poultry on the land where the manure was spread for at least 4 years.
Eliminate places for pests, such as flies, to breed. Do not pile up manure outside of the poultry house. Control lice and mites inside of the house by using approved chemical.

2. VACCINATION -Vaccination is not a substitute for good fl ock health management, but it is helpful in controlling certain diseases. Vaccines are available for Newcastle disease, Marek’s disease, infectious bronchitis, fowl pox, Choryza, fowl cholera, mycoplasmosis, infectious bursal disease.
Vaccinations should be used only by veterinarians. Plan a vaccination program for the specifi c operation in a specifi c locality. Some vaccines for certain diseases can only be used with the permission of the state veterinarian. When planning a vaccination program, obtain help from a veterinarian, the Cooperative Extension Service, a hatchery, or feed dealer. Vaccinations cause stress in poultry. Vaccinate only healthy birds. Read and follow all directions on the vaccine.
Several methods may be used to vaccinate poultry. Individual bird vaccinations are given by injection, intranasally, intraocularly, or through the wing web. Intranasal vaccination is placement of the vaccine directly into the nose opening. Intraocular vaccination is placement of the vaccine directly into the eye. Wing web vaccination is the process of injecting the vaccine into the skin on the underside of the wing web at the elbow. A grooved, double needle instrument is used for wing web vaccination. Flock treatments are given in the water, by spray, or dust. Th e method used depends on the disease to be controlled. Individual vaccination causes more stress on the birds than fl ock treatments. Vaccinations for some diseases can be given in more than one way.

3. CONTROLLING DISEASE OUTBREAKS -It is bett er to prevent a disease outbreak than to try to control it once it has occurred. Following the sanitation, management, and vaccination suggestions discussed earlier in this chapter will help the poultry producer prevent disease outbreaks from occurring.
T h e poultry fl ock should be checked daily for signs of disease. A sudden drop in feed and water consumption is oft en a sign of health problems. Watch the birds to see how they are eating and drinking. If more than 1 percent of the f l ock is sick, a disease is probably present. Death rate is another sign of disease. During the fi rst 3 weeks, the normal death rate for chicks is about 2 percent. For turkeys, it is about 3 percent. Aft er 3 weeks of age, the death rate should not be more than 1 percent per month. A sudden increase in the death rate is an indication of disease.
Most diseases can be accurately diagnosed only in a laboratory. Very few can be accurately diagnosed on the farm. Th e producer should use the services of a veterinarian or the state diagnostic laboratory to determine which disease is causing the problem. Th e procedure for collecting needed information and specimens is specifi ed by the laboratory. Th is procedure should be carefully followed. Th e recommendations of the veterinarian or laboratory for control of the disease must also be followed for best results.

4. OTHER HEALTH MANAGEMENT PRACTICES -
In addition to sanitation, a number of other management practices contribute to good fl ock health. Among these practices are the following.

1. Buy poultry replacement stock from a reliable, disease-free source.
2. Use day-old chicks and poults.
3. If possible, keep birds of only one age on the farm. Use an all-in, all-out program. (Bring all the birds onto the farm at one time and remove them all at one time.)
4. If it is necessary to keep birds of diff erent ages, separate the fl ocks by at least 40 feet (12 m).
5. Separate chickens and turkeys. It is best to have only one or the other on the farm.
6. Separate breeder fl ocks from other poultry. It is best not to have any other poultry on the farm if a breeder fl ock is kept.
7. Keep pets and fl ying birds out of the poultry house. Flying birds can be kept out by screening the windows.
8. Provide the proper ventilation in the poultry house.
9. Control rats and mice. Use rat baits and traps as necessary. Make feed bins and storage rooms rat-proof. Eliminate places for rats and mice to breed by cleaning up trash and junk.
10. Feed balanced rations to prevent nutritional diseases. Make sure the feed is mixed properly. Provide plenty of fresh, clean water. Keep feeders and waterers clean.
11. Maintain good health records. Records should be kept of vaccinations, disease problems, and medicines used.

Basic Rabbit body language
Rabbit body language is unique. They use their ears, tail, nose, and body position to tell us exactly what they mean. All we have to do is learn the behavioral signs and pay attention.

Some basic rabbit behaviors you might notice as you socialize with your rabbit:

Binky: A jump and twist in the air, usually accompanied with some zooming around the room. This means that your rabbit is very happy.
Cautious/Curious: They will slowly approach an object of interest on tiptoe with their ears forward and tail down. They might stretch out as far as they can with their back feet, staying in the same place so they’ll be ready to make a dash for it if they get scared.
Chinning: The rabbit will rub their chin against an object to claim it as their own. Rabbits have scent glands under their chins, so this spreads their scent around and lets any other rabbits know that this is your rabbit’s territory.
Flop: Flopping is when rabbits throw themselves onto their side and sleep. It can be startling if you’re not used to it, because it kind of looks like the rabbit is dead, but it actually means your rabbit feels very safe.
Loaf: Loafing is when your rabbit fluffs up into a ball and looks like a loaf of bread. This is generally a comfortable position for rabbits and they’ll often sleep in this position, especially in the colder months.
Periscope: This is when your rabbit stands on her hind legs, it means she is curious and is trying to get a better vantage point. This is another one of those adorable rabbit behaviors that is just too irresistible. And your rabbit knows it! This is how she begs for treats.
Purring: if you listen very closely when you pet your rabbit, you might hear her softly grinding her teeth together. And if you put your hand on top of her head, you’ll be able to feel a slight vibration. This is what rabbits do when they are happy and content. It means the same thing as a cat’s purring.
Territorial/Aggressive: Rabbits are usually very gentle creatures, especially if they have been spayed or neutered. If a rabbit is displaying aggressive behavior, they will pull their ears back and growl at you to warn you. But it’s very rare for a rabbit to attack anyone out of the blue.
Thump: when your rabbit thumps their strong hind legs against the ground. It might even be loud enough to wake you up at night. This means that your rabbit senses danger or is very upset with something you did.

Record Keeping in rabbit farming.
• A daily record book is essential in almost every kind of production.

• The record to be kept include:
1. Breeding records: date bred and breed used, buck and does bred.

2. Kindling records: Does that kindled, date and number kindled (numerical
size of the litter), number alive and number dead.

3. Weaning records: number of weaned rabbits, date and weight of weaned
rabbits.

4. Record of sales: Average weight at market time and age of the rabbit, and expenditure (including utilities) and income.

HOW TO PRODUCE 200 INDIGENOUS / NKOKO NGANDA / VILLAGE CHICKEN EVERY MONTH LIKE A PRO
has been copied from Kenyan page & edited to fit Ugandan figures.
farm bujjuko
WARNING:Very long post but for your own good.(Some figures are approximations and vary from region to region so don't mock me)

Can you do a successful local chicken business anywhere in Africa? The answer is yes. Can you reap profits from it? Ofcourse you can? Is it complicated? Not at all but you need enough capital to start it.
First things first. Most farmers fail in this sector because they fail to plan.If you fail to plan then you are planning to fail.Do you know where farmers fail most? They start their projects without the end in mind.

Today I will describe how you can rear 1200 indigenous chicken / nkoko nganda / village chicken in a year successfully with or without a headache. With this method you can be churning/selling out 200 local birds every month for sale and smile all the way to your bank account.
The first thing is that you should have a plan.As you know broiler farmers plan for their batch of birds every 6weeks,pig farmers every 6 mths, beef farmers every 2 years, rabbit farmers every 5mths,dog farmers every 6months
Indigenous chicken are ready for meat at about 6-7 months and are sold at between 15,000 (4$) for 45,000(12$) for c***s (empanga).
With local chicken you will need to have a 6 months plan if you are to have 200 mature chicken for sale every month. You need to have a foundation stock(parent stock) which will be giving you eggs every 21 days for incubation or to make it faster ,label & take the fertile eggs to the hatchery

If you remember very well in my previous article I had talked of how to raise 300 chicken every year using 10 hens and 2 c***s.This is where you will get your parent stock or you can buy from a very good source free from diseases.
Take note than the c**kerel for the parent birds need replacement after one year while hens can be replaced after two years. You will have to be patient with this business since indigenous/local chicken are slow growers unlike hybrid chicken and improved indigenous chicken. Before getting your return on investments(R.O.I)you will have to sweat that is undeniable but after you start selling your chicken you will remember me (I will come for a meal of chicken thighs😂😂). Get out your pen and paper, fasten your boda boda seat and travel with me to chicken kingdom.
You should have your breeding stock (around 50 hens and 10 c***s included therein (A ratio of 1 c**k to 7-10 hens is recommended). Indigenous chicken when it comes to meat because of the great taste and people are going organic nowadays.
You need a well constructed poultry house partitioned .They will have a spacing of 6birds per square metre per bird. I.e breeding stock of 60 birds will require 10 square meters, while a batch of 200 birds will require 33square meters. During the day they will be scavenging in an enclosed facility with chain link or live fence , at a spacing of 1 bird per square metre or max 3 birds per square metre , chain link or a good live fence to prevent predators and thieves. You can use Bricks ,Wood/timber ,mud, iron sheets or to construct the poultry house

If you’re to rear the breeding stock from zero, you will have to wait 6months for layers and 7months for c***s to full maturity of the birds,
A batch of just 50 hens ,each laying 12 eggs per month only, will equate to 600 eggs that month , remember we only need 200 birds for sale, so we shall take 300 of those fertile eggs to the hatchery, expecting atleast 80% to hatch, ie 240 chics expected , and we also expect to grow 85% of these chics to grow to maturity, to have our 200 birds ready for the market at 5 to 6 months from then. Dint forget we have an extra 300 eggs that we can sell either as fertilized eggs at 15,000/- per tray or as just yellow York eggs at 12,000/- to 20,000/- per tray ,this could bring us 15,000 x10 = 150,000 or 200,000/- per month. Donot forget to buy one or two trained guard dogs to protect you profitable venture ,if you need a lovely german sheperd puppy call/whatsapp:0703300002(Allan) prices range between 500,000/- to 750,000 for a 3months puppy ,its handed to you after all vaccinations & deworming, are done at 3months.

In the first month you will have the first batch of 240 chicks in the which you brood in the 2nd house. You’re to feed them in deep litter up to 10weeks them release them outside in the fenced off area everyday starting 11am after they have laid .The second month you have another batch of 240 chicken. You do this till the 6th month when you will start harvesting the first batch of mature chicken for sale, as you make money don’t forget to buy incubator/hatchery that can hatch 300-1000 chicks every 21 days.Inorder to make this venture more profitable and avoid high costs of production(feeds take 65%) you will have to mix your own feeds. You will need feed ingredients such as:

Broken Maize
Maize Bran
Soya
Mukene
Bavonite Extra (Premix/Feed Addictive)
Lime
(As instructed on the Buleemezi Feed package)

Note 1: I will edit the full Feed required later
Note 2: I will edit the Vaccination schedule later (or get one from your chics supplier)
Note 3: Ur to sell off the c***s from the batch and maintain layers, you can buy adult c***s from elsewhere

Your birds are now mature at 6 mths and you have batches following at 5mths,4mths,3mths,2mths and 1mth.You sell your first batch ie (200 x 25,000 = 5,000,000) if ur in the villages expect 15,000/- to 20,000/- and bring in a new batch to maintain the cycle.
Deduct feeds and other variables like drugs, vet services and vaccines and you have not less .It is good money every month if you’re not diverting the money to lousy activities. The biggest costs when starting this project will be housing costs and feeds. From the second year you will have made enough profits after investing and reinvesting and you can expand your business.
I believe nothing is impossible if you are commited.Chicken farming can employ you and can lift you to unprecedented heights of greatness and wealth.Let me not hear you say it can't be done.It can be done and you know it.Being born poor is not by choice but if you die poor then you have yourself to blame.
Mine is to give you this information for free and if you feel like gifting me then go ahead I will be waiting.A shilling from each of you should make me a rich man😂😂 Wishing you all the best in your endeavours folks. To learn more about poultry visit the original page where it can copied from https://www.facebook.com/pg/ngurapoultrycare/community
