After careful assessment of the endemic problems for example poverty, illiteracy, excessive unemployment that have severely affected the communities in Jinja, Mayuge, Kamuli, Iganga, Bugiri and other parts of Eastern Uganda, it was resolved that an organization be formed to help the people. So Animal Care-Uganda was hatched by Animal Production and Management students of Busitema University in 201
1and the vision became practical and physical in August 2012 with the specific objective to address these problems of the communities here and their neighborhood. Animal Care-Uganda was initiated with the overall objective of improving on the household income through livestock production which is a direct avenue to wealth, mitigating the challenges arising from poverty, lack of access to veterinary services, illiteracy, unemployment and dissemination of information about sustainable Livestock-human interaction. It was decided that in order to achieve the organization’s objectives the following has to be done:
1. Sensitizing the communities in all the affected districts of hazards posed by the identified problems such as poverty, illiteracy and inadquate access to agricultural incentives.
2. Mobilize resources from donors, both material and financial so as to boost the organization’s ability to cope with the problems.
3. Open up demonstration farms and pilot projects where beneficiaries can be trained from.
4. Put in place veterinary drug shops with a team of Livestock service providers (outreach team) to treat animals and advise beneficiaries on a monthly basis.
5. Set up a hatchery and a poultry products value addition plant.
