GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN: And these girls did!
Flametree Stables & Horse Farm offers services designed to help anyone young or old, to learn to ride The facilities at Flametree stables are first-class.
Please kindly note that all riding must be booked in advance so we can professionally prepare them for you. Flametree Stables and horse farm is owned and run with huge enthusiasm by Miranda Bowser. An accomplished horsewoman, Miranda moved to Uganda from England over 20 years ago and has been keeping horses and teaching people to ride ever since. Nestling in stunning countryside near Gayaza, Flame
tree Stables is within easy reach from Kampala approximately 45 minutes from the Lugogo bypass. The stables sit in 20 acres of woodland home to a variety of flora and fauna including the Flametree which gives the business its name. Miranda and her fantastically friendly team of staff offer a wealth of experience catering for both children and adults of all abilities, whether you’re a first time rider or have experience in the saddle. There are several full-time instructors including Miranda herself and the yard is home to thirty five horses and ponies of differing sizes and abilities to suit your individual needs. The horses are well schooled and the yard operates to high standards in its care for both horses and clients. There’s a large arena with a sand surface which means lessons can take place in all weathers, three further grass and sand teaching areas as well as a x-country course which winds its way through the woodland. There’s a myriad of activities to enjoy from individual or group lessons to instruction in the various equestrian disciplines such as dressage and show-jumping. However, if you’d rather take it easy with a leisurely hack around the local countryside, that can be arranged too. The stables run popular competitions and gymkhanas for children and host regular pony camps at weekends and during school holidays. In addition there are opportunities to compete at events in Kenya with Flametree’s clients making regular trips to places such as Nairobi and Nanyuki. Safety is a priority. All tack and crash hats are imported from abroad and meet the approved standards for safety in the UK. Our staff are trained in first aid and we are affiliated with the’ The Surgery’ in Kampala. But all riding is at your own risk. Flametree prides itself on our professional approach to riding in a unique and beautiful environment. Our best advert is the atmosphere created by our friendly staff and our fun and well planned lessons and activities. Quite simply Flametree riders come back time and time again

FAREWELL GERONIMO (sweet Jerry)! We all talk about our ‘horses of a lifetime’ some only ever get one, some of us are lucky to get one or two. This boy Geronimo (Jerry) was one of mine. Jerry left us a few months ago, I just haven’t been able to bring myself to acknowledge his loss!
He taught me so much, I taught him so little! He was wise and kind and one of the nicest people you could meet. A true gentleman.
For those who were blessed to ride him, you will all know the look Jerry could give you. That kind eye that would turn and look at you as soon as you mounted.
Jerry you lived a fabulous life and you were loved. I will forever miss your morning greeting. Was it me who made you happy? Or my carrots?
Enjoy your new pastures! Say hello to the rest of the herd!
Forever grateful to Maxine Harding.)

THE PAUL SHERWEN PROJECT & The Tour of Karamoja.
So many Flametree friends will remember Paul.
Well we are not quite sure how this has happened, but some of Paul’s friends and Katherine, the wife of the late Paul Sherwen have signed up to ride Paul’s ‘Tour of Karamoja’ 7 days and 7 Stages, nearly 6,000m’s of elevation and a minimum of 80km’s cycling a day. Oh and let’s not forget the heat and the fact it’s all off road, gravel, stones, and murram roads with a bit of desert added for fun. We have to be certifiably mad.
But we are raising money for the ‘Matany Girls Vocational School’ a charity that the Paul Sherwen Project supports. https://m.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=nwE4RABJDMs&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.classy.org%2F&source_ve_path=Mjg2NjY&feature=emb_logo

We thank you and will keep you posted as we endure conditions we probably can’t imagine, yet!
If you don’t know Paul Sherwen? How can you not?
Paul Sherwen was an English professional racing cyclist (who moved and settled in Uganda) later a broadcaster on cycling, notably the Tour De France. He raced in seven editions of the Tour, finishing five, and gained a reputation for his ability to suffer over long mountain stages - not sure this bit will be us 🤣. Paul was my friend a Flametree Stables supporter bringing his daughter Margaux out to ride on Sunday’s for many years when he wasn’t traveling the world as a commentator.
