Hate snakes? Need a flock guard? How balanced is your pond?
We have friends to help you out-
🐥Guinea were brought into the USA to be snake predators. They also make good noisy guard dogs for your property.
🐥 Turkeys are not the sharpest of babies- but grow to be very social guardians for your chicken flock. Their shear size tends to keep away hawks.
🐥Ducks eat algae and plankton to help balance your pond’s ecosystem. Their waste is fertilizer to also help balance the ecosystem of your pond.

Good info.

While egg shells do not indicate nutritional value, the egg yolk does! Yolks with vivid colors are richer in nutrients and a sign the hen was given a healthy diet.

Thanksgiving and holiday vacations shouldn’t require major planning to feed your chickens. Have you tried a Purina Flock Block? This 25lb cube is a real treat and extends easy feeding. During molting, planned trips, and cold/rainy days- It’s intended to supplement, not replace feed. Use under cover to make sure birds don’t run out of feed.

We are team BOTH! I only wash soiled eggs (gently with a green scrubber and room temp water). We pick eggs in the A.M. and P.M. and use artificial turf in our nest boxes (it’s washable and air dries); so our eggs are pretty clean. What are your tips on clean eggs?

Are you Team Wash-Your-Eggs or Team Leave-Them-Be?

🧼 Team Wash: A gentle scrub under lukewarm water to remove any foreign material and signs of bacteria, then refrigerate.

🥚 Team Leave-Them-Be: Unwashed eggs have a protective layer called the cuticle and can be stored on the counter.

Washing your eggs isn’t necessary but be sure to follow the proper care protocol depending on which route you choose!
