The horses were soaking up the sun the last few days in preparation for winter. We knew fall wouldn't last forever but we will miss seeing the brown ground. With just a couple weeks of our fall lessons we now look forward to winter. While some students decide to take it off keeping up with lessons keeps your skills getting better. One way that I like to have students work on their rider position and build strength is by standing in their stirrups. My Tuseday class has turned this into a competition now at the end of the lesson when they are cooling their horses down. It is so nice to have students that are so enthusiastic about lessons.

We are squeezing all the things into the last nice days. We got our delivery of new squares and rounds of alfalfa this week. Fresh hay is the best smell.

This past weekend I was able to travel to Bismark for a couple lessons with Amy Miller. Big thanks to Prairie Rose Training Center Dressage for putting on a wonderful clinic. It was a bit of a hectic weekend for me as my good friend got married in Minot, but Amy only comes three times a year. Ghazi and I have some awesome homework to hopefully start showing 4th level next year.

Our nice weather continues! We are so grateful for a long fall. Teddy is progressing in his bravery with the students. He isn't a very confident horse in general so I have been very picky about the students that ride him.

With all our nice weather we have been riding out in the pasture on Fridays. Last week was parent teacher conferences so Audrey didn't have school and helped out at the barn.

Recently one of my groups of students decided they wanted to try riding ba****ck. Overall they thought it was fun and nobody fell off! Always nice to have an enthusiastic group of lesson students.

This weekend we held our first horse camp. We had 5 students that participated. They did a craft, rode, and learned about the parts of briddles, and saddles. We also did a section on horse colors, horse breeds, and markings horses have. It went well and we will most likely do more in the future. Our goal is always that we educate our students on all things horses so that if they ever own one they are knowledgeable.

Last week I took Ghazi and Ritz to the vet. Ghazi got his hocks injected for the fall to help with his arthritis. He has this procedure done twice a year to keep him comfortable in his work. Ritz got his joints x-rayed to make sure his growth plates are closed. He passed his x-rays and now can go into full time work! Ritz had also been shaking his head when being ridden recently so we had his teeth looked at. He had some very sharp points that were causing him discomfort so he had a quick dental done too. Ritz was very well behaved for all his pictures and procedures. Both horses got microchiped as well. Next year our shows will require the horses to be microchiped.
