STORY TIME:
Today I had to go to the Abilene Zoo to pick their 2 Sulcata Tortoises. We stopped by Tractor Supply to pick up a couple of hay bales as bedding for them in the trailer. As we pull around back to get our hay bales Mr. Ron the assistant manager met us at the trailer. We introduced ourselves and proceeded to get our hay bales. We talked about what we’re doing and chatted about the rescue and he donated all the busted bales in the trailer so we could could save the 2 we bought and not have to use them… look at the pictures… the amount of hay we received will feed these tortoises for while! Thank you Tractor Supply you don’t know how much you saved our little rescue! If y’all go to Tractor Supply find Mr. Ron and give him a high five!

I have many reptiles available for adoption and the rescue is filling up quickly, my problem is everybody that’s reaches out and wants a reptile has limited education for what it actually takes to care for the animal properly. I’ve been considering hosting classes here at the rescue on the weekends. Discussing habitats, feeding routines, humidity, diet, proper handling. Each class would be species specific. A deep dive on everything about that species including some hands on experience to make sure this is the right species for you and your family. In order to make this happen I would need a minimum of 5 people per class. I have not decided on a price yet I’m just testing the waters to see if this is something y’all would be interested in. Feel free to comment or shoot me a message with ideas. Thanks everyone!

My favorite part… the release!! Red Eared Slider fully recovered from a cracked shell. So long little buddy

I don't post a lot of rehab on here because normally I'm a one man crew and taking pictures is the last thing on my mind. However, this diamondback came in a couple weeks ago as a removal by Abilene Animal Services just needing a release, Thankfully Officer Lindsey brought him to us because upon inspection I discovered he was hurting so bad he would try to rattle and instantly stop and hide his tail. Aside from the broken rattle I discovered he had an infection on a wound just below his rattle. This sound is terrifying to most but shot of medicine after shot of medicine and regular bathing to keep clean this sound is music to my ears. A tear fell when I realized it was him rattling. Don't fear them... Respect them... we need our wildlife and sometimes they need us too and we need to be there for them. Fluff or scales, cuddly or lethal we all need a little help every now and then. #WildlifeMatters #respecttherattler
