The Right Steps

The Right Steps Right Steps Dog Training is a positive behavioral based program, taught by Carol Millinghausen I know that there is not a dog out there that cannot be trained.

I also know that training has saved many dogs’ lives. Not just from being hit by a car, or running away, but training and learning good manners keeps dogs in homes. They don’t come to us understanding human culture. We need to understand their culture, see life and training from their perspective and train them with patience, consistency and respect. Sometimes we humans need to modify our behavior

and how we interact with our canine companions to keep them safe and train them well. I help people teach their dogs good manners using positive reinforcement, and operant conditioning (clicker training). I use no aversive methods. I educate people on canine body language and communication because face it, when two species can communicate it leads to a deeper understanding and a better relationship.

Candy Dog Treats🎅🐶

Ingredients:
* 2/3 Cup Pumpkin Puree
* 1/4 Cup Creamy Peanut Butter
* 2 Eggs
* Up to 3 Cups Oat Flour
* Red and Green Food Coloring

Directions:
1) Preheat the oven to 350° F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
2) In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the pumpkin, peanut butter, and eggs. Mix on medium-high speed for a couple of minutes (scraping down the sides of the bowl, as necessary) until the ingredients are thoroughly incorporated.
3) With the mixer on low, gradually add 2-1/2 cups of the flour, mixing until just incorporated. Add an additional 1/4 cup of flour at a time (as necessary) until the dough is no longer sticky to the touch.
4) Remove the dough ball from the mixing bowl and knead with your hands for a minute or two.
5) Separate the dough ball into two equal-sized balls of dough.
6) Flatten one dough ball and place a couple of drops of green food coloring into the middle. Fold the dough in on itself and knead the food coloring into the dough ball until the dough is completely green.
7) Repeat with the remaining ball of dough – coloring it red.
8) Break each dough ball up into several 1″-2″ balls (depending on how big your want your dog treats to be).
9) Using your hands and the counter top, roll a green ball into a long skinny snake. Roll a red ball into a long skinny snake (equal in length).
10) Now braid the two snakes together (one over the other) until they are completely twisted. Bend the top half of the twisted dough down to form a candy cane-shape.
11) Place the candy cane onto the parchment-lined cookie sheet.
12) Repeat the process with the remaining balls of green and red dough.
13)Place in the oven and bake for 20-30 minutes, or until the bottoms begin to brown.
14) Remove from the oven and transfer to a wire cooling rack. Let cool completely.

In honor of National Cookie Day here is a gingerbread cookie recipe to bake for your doggies.

Ingredients:
* 1 ½ cups (180g) all-purpose flour measured by weight or using the spoon and sweep method*
* 1 tablespoon ground ginger
* ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
* ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
* ¼ cup molasses
* ¼ cup water
* 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions:
* Preheat your oven to 325°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking mat.
* In a medium bowl, whisk together dry ingredients.
* In a small bowl, whisk together molasses, water, and oil. Using a wooden spoon, slowly mix liquid ingredients into the flour mixture, stirring until well-combined and uniform in color (some times I work the dough a little by hand to make sure all streaks of flour are mixed in--see recipe notes on dough texture).
* On an a clean, smooth surface, roll or pat dough to ¼-inch thick and cut out shapes, gathering dough and re-rolling as necessary. Bake for 20 minutes and allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet.
