🚨SUPPORT NEEDED!🚨
Our island has been flooded with unwanted puppies. As part of our mission to eliminate pet overpopulation, we provide proactive solutions through free and low-cost spay and neuter services. Regardless, puppies continue to be born on our island.
For the puppies who need homes, we actively and continually look for placement opportunities. This includes local and off-island adoptions (and pop-up puppy events!) and transfers to our trusted partner organizations on the mainland that experience a high demand for puppies.
Our goal is to 1) place puppies as soon as possible to prevent them from growing up in the shelter environment, which is detrimental to their socialization while also 2) helping save the lives of as many puppies as possible!
In 2024 thus far, we have transported 80 dogs and puppies to our partner organizations on the mainland (East Bay SPCA, Seattle Humane, and Oregon Humane Society.)
Just two days ago, we sent 9 puppies to Oakland for the start of their next chapter. ✈️
From crates to health certificates to rabies vaccines, and most important, flights, HIHS absorbs the ENTIRE expense of transport. This is an expensive but necessary endeavor.
Today, our transport fund balance is ➡️ZERO⬅️. 😔 We need your support and funding to help us continue our transport efforts.
On average, it costs nearly $400 per pet for transport ($275 for the flight alone, through our rescue partnership with Alaska Airlines*.)
