Go see my buddy Sugar Ray at Eudora Wildlife Safari Park
I went in and I stood tall and I petted this giant adult male giraffe. Then all of a sudden you hear this low deep “Grrrrr” growl sound.
So the trainer says “get up very slowly and back away.”
And so the giraffe did, he slowly got up and backed away from me.
Today I had to put Cowboy’s need to leave his failing body above my need to keep him with me.
I know that he touched many of the lives reading these words. I watched him time after time console some of you when you were loosing your friend. He always knew who needed him and would go stand next to you and make you pet him. Cowboy made the world a better place.
I found him in a dog pound in Ohio back in January of 2008. He traveled across the country with me many times. He went to work with me almost every single day for 15 years.
My right hand man. 15 years of farm calls, he was with me at work every day through thick and thin. Rest in peace Cowboy.
3 legs
I had the opportunity today to visit with one of my oldest patients. His name is Junior. In a few short months this white tail deer will be thirteen years old.
About a dozen years ago I amputated Junior’s leg and castrated him. Because of that he never sheds his antlers, and they always stay short and stubby in velvet year round. Junior likes certain dogs and loves bananas.

Gandalf is a water buffalo. He was born with severe arthrogryposis in both front legs and was unable to walk. The condition is congenital and causes stiffness and limited range of motion in certain joints. Today he had a check up a few days after I custom made him some orthopedic shoes. He seems to be improving with lots of care from the crew at Eudora Wildlife Safari Park.
