4 hours on the road, 4 in the field and we shot once. Jax had a nice point on a quail and 3 roosters flushed way ahead of us. Jax, Zoey and Ava worked the fields nicely together and are worn out, sure wish we could have rewarded their hard work with some retrieves. Maybe next trip.

The last two years we have taken the dogs to hunt for the pheasants forever mentor hunt. Tonight we received this really cool blanket that they made from some of the pictures from the last two years.

We had a great time at the Valley Falls Kansas VGP that Jill Manring and Larry Martin put on. I have heard this is the test that will test both dog and handlers wills and that was so true! I went in with the goal of passing but hoped for my true Jax to shine through. We had our share of triumphs and struggles over the weekend but at the end we passed with a 266 prize III. I went in knowing I had not put enough time in on all subjects as I was trying to train both Jax and Ava for her HZP. Overall I am proud of this dog he has heart and wants to please me I couldn't be more proud of this dog and what he has taught me! I am also so proud of Woody Wimberley and his dog Luther. Luther has worked through with a permanent injury, he hammered the test a true testament to his heart and Woody's capabilities. Woody and I both were part of the Nebraska training group put on by Jill Manring, I know I speak for both of us when I say how thankful we are for Jill and her expertise. The friendships made on this journey have been second to none!

I am in Kearney this week for work meetings so decided to take Jax along to train in the evenings for his upcoming VGP test with some of the summer training group. I decided to haul the camper in lieu of a hotel and he was lucky enough to get this awesome pond at our campsite to swim in. Not sure what he had his eye on but it had his attention for quite some time. The sunset was beautiful tonight so had to snap a picture.

Very proud of Ava vom Sandhugel. We participated in the VDD-GNA Armbruster this weekend. She placed 22nd out of 68 dogs. We had a great time. It was fun to meet new friends and catch up with old ones.

Had a great day at the great Plains training day today! Ava worked on both drags and water work which is our absolute favorite! On the field drags Ava works a track nicely with just a little more trainer guidance, I am confident she will do great on her drags. Jax had another awesome independent water search and both did super on their search behind the duck. Very proud of these two and absolutely love watching them develop. I got very few pictures today these are all of Ava on her duck search.

Beautiful evening to be out training. Worked both Ava and Jax on duck search, Jax on blood tracking and Ava field search and drags. Zoey joined Jax and Ava for a refreshing swim after we were done training.

Received the Xray results for Ava vom Sandhugel from Germany today! Officially have all the requirements met for entry in the armbruster this September. Now to just concentrate on training for the tests.

Great Plains Training day. Worked on steadiness to shot, independent forest search and water work with Jax. Ava the water work. Alot of fun seeing progress in both Ava and Jax as we work towards this falls tests. Zoey gave me the sad eye look as I was loading the others so she came along as well 🙂

Jax patiently waiting to work the blood track. He is coming along nicely. After training day Saturday we stopped at cabelas they each got a new doken and were happy to hand it to the cashier to pay.

Zoey has to stay home when the others go to training with me, so she got to go by herself today. She was determined flush the rabbit out from under the tank.

I took Ava to get pre-qualified for the armbruster this morning. Get x-rays done and we are ready to go! We stopped at cabelas for a treat.

Jax and Ava came along with us for our vacation. Zoey came for the weekend but went back home. We have been working on force fetch with Ava and some refreshing with Jax. Training for the HZP with Ava and VGP with Jax this fall.

We were honored to help with the local Pheasant Forever Youth Mentor hunt this morning. Zoey and Ava did a wonderful job with several points, honor points and a retrieve. I didn’t get any pictures in the actual field, but hopefully will get some from the photographer that I can share soon.
