The kids had so!!! much fun with hatching eggs, just some pictures of the past few days, I showed them our egg scale, candleing the eggs and I even read a book to them about chickens that I think the kids really enjoyed. Such a fun thing to do for the school house. 🐣🐥

Today is/was beginning of hatch watch and so far still waiting. I spray the eggs with a mister so the chicks don't have to peck so hard to get out. I am set up at home with a brooder so I am ready for the lil fluffy butts. I also found a couple of good lil books for the grade school age kids to learn about chickens/chicks. So sorry for not being on folks, to keep you updated a out the incubation of the eggs, all is well so far we have candled the eggs and I think there is like at least 5 out of the 12 but as the saying goes don't count your chickens till they hatch. The kids are really engaged with the whole process, when the chicks start to hatch I feel they will light up. Next week is hatch week around the 24th. Did you Know= hens will only leave the nest to eat and or go to the bathroom.

Day 9 all is well with incubation, just a waiting game now till hatch day. Did you Know= For chickens the incubation period is 21 days...

Day's 6,7 and 8, the eggs continue to maintain temperature and humidity. On Tuesday this week we candled the eggs and I'd say I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch. But all is well at day 8. Did you Know= Hens will use her own feathers for nesting materials....

Day 5, as todaybis Sunday and I'm not at the school, the eggs are doing well I'm sure. Did You Know= most chicken breeds are dual purpose, not only for egg production but for chicken at the dinner table....😃🥚🐣🍗

Day 4, on Friday before I left the school all is well with the incubation process. Did you know= Hens drop off laying eggs in crazy weather.....😄

Day 3 of incubation, all is well. The students are really engaged always coming up with some guestion or comment, we love that. Did you know= hens lay an egg about every day of there life...😃

Today is day 2 for the incubating eggs, all is well they are maintaining as they should for day 2. The students got excited to see the eggs move, they thought it was time for them to hatch, not yet we have 19ish more days to go. Did you know=hens the female put a protective coating on the eggs to preserve them....

Chickens are doing good, still have a hen setting. Only 1 of the lil chicks left from first momma hen and he she is doing well.

Chickens are well, we lost 2 of the lil chicks momma hen hatched out 1 left and is doing well. I got a kennel to put brooder mom hen in cause she's a nest hopper. The rafters of the coop are also night roosts for the chickens, love the dual purpose. All is well with that. 😊😃🐥🐔🐓

Was able to get momma hen moved with her 3 Littles, she wasn't able to settle till I moved the eggs remaining in the nest aa she is still broody, but I think she will do well. The reason for the move is so that she can eat and drink along with her Littles....🐔🐤😃

Lastnight when I put the chickens to bed I discovered one of the hens in a nest box and that is odd for them as at night they roost, today the same she is still in the nest, so looks like we have a broody hen she is setting on 16 eggs so we might have more chicks at K&M Chickens Inc. Then before supper tonight I checked on the chicks in the mudroom and one passed away, not sure why, but it's nature for ya. 🐥🐔

After letting the remaining eggs incubate another night and no action today, I made the decision to end incubation. So we ended up with 9 lil fluffy butts not to shaby out of 12 eggs. Cleaned up the incubator for the next time. I did crack the eggs and only one had a chick in it but do think it was a quitter egg as things didn't look healthy and the other 2 of the remaining 3 had just yolk in them. So happy with how all went. 😃🥚🐣🐥

Woke up to 3 more chicks, moved them to the brooder with the others, still have 3 to go and the dinning room is chick hatchery. 🥚🐣🐤😃
