In the U.S., there are an estimated 232,000 cases of pet poisoning every year, according to WebMD Pet Health Center. Most of these poisonings can be prevented by educating pet owners.

Common dog poisons:
Chocolate
Rodenticides
Anti-inflammatory medications
Xylitol (sugar-free gum)
Grapes and raisins
Antidepressant medications
Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
Vitamin D preparations
Metaldehyde (found in slug and snail baits)

Ibuprofen is one of the most common causes of poisoning in dogs — the Pet Poison Helpline receives more than 4,000 calls concerning ibuprofen each year.
