Not trying to sensationalize or scare clients, but wanted to let you know there is a new urinary stone, called Calcium tartrate tetrahydrate. It has been found in pets eating the fresh diets like Farmers Dog, Just food for dogs and Nom nom and those using choline bitartrate in the added supplement to home cooked diets. There are over 90,000 stones submitted annually to the University of Minnesota for analysis, so stones do occur in a few pets fed kibble as well as the fresh diets, but it will be interesting to see what the average number of pets on kibble vs those on fresh food that develop stones. Time will tell, in the meantime, it helps to be informed.

The Minnesota Urolith Center has discovered a new type of urinary stone that is associated with supplements or diets containing a particular compound, called Calcium Tartrate Tetrahydrate.

I was certified in acupuncture back in 2009 and over time have shifted my practice to primarily acupuncture for my patients..... but it is not a recognized specialty by the AVMA and that may finally change. The AVMA is looking for input from the public about this and I need your help. The information about how to comment is here: https://www.avma.org/education/veterinary-specialties?fbclid=IwY2xjawKa9zJleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETF2U3h1S0RkZmVINllnQ0loAR5Ff4qRsCFsjJaL09sHBl4ygQ14n_3xLcLRywuqEfcddp2VcB3_OYWclo89mg_aem_45GVBuCqoACnoPn2qMUVcA

I keep forgetting to post about this. My rescue pup, Emma, came with both upper canines fractured. They haven’t seemed to bother her, she loves retrieving balls and plays aggressively with her soccer ball but recently the left upper canine was bleeding during soccer ball play, so I scheduled a dental. Both broken canines had to be removed. It is amazing and worrisome how stoic our pets can be, especially about dental disease.

Took the morning off yesterday to visit Mt. Vernon (it was free to veterans) with my pup Emma-beautiful weather. They had the oxen out while they mowed their pen and some of the Caisson platoon came over to chat (they were there with a few of their horses). I was the Caissonvet back in 1997.....so many years ago.
