Not trying to sensationalize or scare clients, but wanted to let you know there is a new urinary stone, called Calcium tartrate tetrahydrate. It has been found in pets eating the fresh diets like Farmers Dog, Just food for dogs and Nom nom and those using choline bitartrate in the added supplement to home cooked diets. There are over 90,000 stones submitted annually to the University of Minnesota for analysis, so stones do occur in a few pets fed kibble as well as the fresh diets, but it will be interesting to see what the average number of pets on kibble vs those on fresh food that develop stones. Time will tell, in the meantime, it helps to be informed.
