๐Ÿ›‘ DCM link to GRAIN-FREE remains UNFOUNDED ๐Ÿ›‘

From the first day the FDA and veterinary cardiologists and nutritionists labeled grain-free BEG diets as causing DCM in dogs, I called ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿ’ฉ. This was just a ploy by the large pet food manufacturers using their influence on FDA to single out smaller companies that are gaining an increase in market share.

๐Ÿ’ฐUnfortunately, their ploy worked, resulting in discontinuation of many wonderful pet foods and huge revenue losses for good companies.

โŒ The veterinary community has bought into this rhetoric, often recommending a return to poor quality, grain-filled, low-meat diets for pets.

Can certain high quality grains provide benefits for some dogs? Yes.
Do I recommend diets filled with grains or legumes and potatoes? No.

FYI - This DIY Tick Repellent is sublime made with Rose Flower Water. Ticks don't care for it but we do!

Make Your Own Tick Repellent ๐ŸŒฟ

It's important to know that ticks operate mostly by using their sense of smell, this is why pure essential oils can be effective. Ticks don't jump or fall from trees, instead, they do something called "questing."

They climb to the top of a blade of grass or plant and stick their front legs up in the air, waiting for the scent of a victim to walk by. Contrary to popular belief, ticks do not jump, they hitch a ride when we brush up against them. Their front pair of legs have what are called Haller's organs, which detect smell, temperature, movement and carbon dioxide. This is how they know you're coming.

According to the experts, ticks are not attracted to the scent of several essential oils which I'll list below or, vinegar. I say this a lot, but the versatility of essential oils make them the best value around for true health and wellness at home, in the wilderness, travel or on the farm.

Lastly, vinegar, white vinegar or apple cider vinegar but either one is stinky to a tick so be sure to add it to your Organic Rose Water and with a small amount of Rosehip Seed Oil, my own version of "Skin so Soft" you might say...

Per 4 oz glass spray bottle:

20 drops Lavender
20 drops Copaiba
20 drops Eucalyptus or Lemongrass
1 T Rosehip Seed Oil - assists with coverage and emulsifies the EOs
2 T Vinegar

Add Essential Oils
Add Vinegar
Add CW Organic Rosehip Seed Oil
Top off with CW Organic Rose Water
Attach spray top, tip back and forth to blend.

Shake well before using, apply often especially when perspiring.
Be careful not to get near the eyes.

Use in moderation on pets. A test patch is recommended for both you and your pet.

Remember, your dogs sense of smell is much more powerful than yours, we all need to keep that in mind!

Spraying repellent on a bandana then carefully applying by wiping on vulnerable areas is helpful and suggested.

Happy Trails!

THE INVISIBLE SLIMY MONSTER IN THE WATER BOWL

Ever rub your fingers on the inside of your pet's water bowl and you feel a slippery slime of sorts? Well that invisible goo is called Biofilm.

Biofilm is a collection of organic and inorganic, living and dead materials collected on a surface. It is made up of many different types of bacteria bound together in a thick substance that acts as a glue to both hold the bacteria together and adhere it to a surface.

Biofilm can often be good bacteria but there is also the bad!

Biofilms provide a safe haven for organisms like Listeria, E. coli and legionella where they can reproduce to levels where contamination of products passing through that water becomes inevitable.

Bad Biofilms have been found to be involved in a wide variety of microbial infections in the body such as urinary tract infections, middle-ear infections and bladder infections.

Many pet parents are guilty of simply refilling the water bowl over and over without a wash and this becomes a wonderful environment for biofilm to soak around in.

How to reduce Biofilm:

Remember to clean your petโ€™s water bowl at least once a week if you can and change water daily.

For pet daycares where a host of different bacteria float around in water bowls, wash daily!

For best results, run your water bowls through a hot cycle in the dishwasher with an eco friendly, non-toxic soap to really clean out the biofilm!

Rodney Habib Pet Health Site

"An educated, informed and well-researched community of pet owners can only put more pressure on the pet food industry to be better! When pet owners know better, they will only do better!"

(P.S. - I am going to get lambasted over the "wash once a week at least" concept. However, after a wonderful discussion with a well known pro-active veterinarian/scientist, when she studied the bacteria looming in pets' water bowls she found if you have a healthy beast, biofilm can actually be full of wonderful, healthy bacteria. It's like playing in the mud as kids and having good bacteria all over you! So sometimes cleaning regularly can wash all the good stuff away. ;) )

Each year, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized in the United States, simply because shelters are too full and there arenโ€™t enough adoptive homes. Moreover, many people tend to buy pets at shop instead of adopting them from shelters. For this reason, animal rescue organizations...

ATTENTION Pet Parents!

A chemical used in Milk-Bones, Olโ€™Roy, Kibblesโ€™n Bits, Hillโ€™s Pet Food and other pet foods should no longer be considered safe for consumption due to concerns about its ability to damage DNA according to a new animal-model study.

According to the Environmental Working Group: โ€œA scientific panel created by the European Food Safety Authority found that titanium dioxide โ€œcan no longer be considered as safe when used as a food additive.โ€ The panel, citing concerns about titanium dioxideโ€™s genotoxicity, or its ability to damage DNA, based its conclusion on a review of hundreds of scientific studies. EWG called on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to quickly consider whether to ban titanium dioxide from use in food."

A chemical that may damage our pet's DNA should not be fed to pets.

Titanium dioxide is on The Forever Dogโ€™s Dirty Dozen list of additives you need to avoid in your pet food. www.ForeverDog.com/about
