With a mission of connecting children to nature through equine-based education, Stoney Oaks Ranch connects thousands of kids to amazing animals through summer horse day camps. Each day is planned by dividing our campers into small groups to ensure their safety and to create a uniquely personal relationship with each camper. Campers start each day with 'circle time' to talk about the activities and expectations for the day. Each day highlight a positive quality, such as leadership, compassion and bravery, to focus on and recognize throughout the day. Then we dive right into the equines world where they have hands on education about the care, anatomy, tack and riding skills. Each day builds on the previous one to increase skills and confidence levels. The remainder of the day is a time for creativity through crafts, fun games, painting horses, interacting with other farm animals and so much more. The campers will learn compassion for each other and the animals, as well as leadership skills and teamwork through our entire program. At the close of each day, we will ask campers to acknowledge other campers who they saw as an example of our daily positive quality. Our campers leave the last day of camp knowing how brave, special and capable they are. They leave with new, likeminded friends, compassion for animals and a confidence that only comes from working with horses.

We wanted to do something really awesome for our students and families…. So I thought, let’s take this show on the road! We took over Camp Lockett for 2 days. We had a horse and rider costume contest, our very own gymkhana with 21 riders, and a huge family camp out. Delicious food was served, great times were had, and memories were made.

Not only did the kids make memories they will never forget, but us adults feel the same. It was an incredible weekend, for so many reasons. It will live in my heart forever.

Thank you Camp Lockett Gymkhana for letting us have this time together. The views are incredible and we all felt like we were far, far away from our crazy lives for a couple of days.

Holy Guacamole turned out the be a common statement at yesterday’s gymkhana at Camp Lockett. These girls dug deep, rode beautifully, and made us all so proud. They cheered on each other and EVERY competitor. They are hard working and classy. They handled a 10 hour, exhausting day like a BOSS. The future is on fire with this crew!! LOOK OUT! Here are some videos I got before my phone died 🤪😝

There are so many magical moments that happens with the kids and the animals at the ranch. I happened to capture this one on video. We were in the goat pen when one of our younger campers was off by herself giving Mabel May some love and singing her a song. The older kids surrounded her and Mabel and continued the singing. This was one of many songs they serenaded her with. Unscripted, unplanned, pure love and joy. It brought me to tears watching these kids be real KIDS and the wonder and magic that can come from that. I have the best job in the world. I thank God every day for the opportunity.
