We feel like the general public has no idea what the animal crisis currently is in our own Valley and nationwide. Here's an update for our community, animal lovers, and our supporters:
- The animal shelters are full
- The rescues are full
- No-kill shelters like Lucky's Place AHASV are full
- Adoptions are at an all-time low
- Intake is at an all-time high
- Euthanasia for space is at an all-time high nationwide
Breeders are surrendering their ENTIRE LITTERS, parents included. They aren't selling. Puppies, pregnant moms, and good young pets are being surrendered and in some shelters euthanized daily. Just recently, Solar and Olive were surrendered with their entire litters. Please stop supporting breeders and encouraging them to want to profit from litters.
The chances that there is a "really nice" home just waiting for your dog or cat are quite honestly incredibly slim. Spay/neuter your pet. Train your dog. Invest in a crate. They are just fine being home while you work. They sleep most of the day anyway and are delighted for any time you can manage to give them. Months in a kennel at the shelter is not a better solution to the life you can give them in their own home. If they're not surrendered to a no-kill shelter the timeline for finding a new family isn't enough, people are not adopting. We promise you that there isn't someone who will magically have more time or can take better care than you can. Please stop surrendering them to shelters because you don't have time. If you need help, some organizations can help with food and possibly medical or direct you to an organization that can. Please keep your pet.
As a no-kill shelter, we at Lucky's Place AHASV are receiving emails daily from shelters close to us and across the nation begging us to provide a safe place for an animal scheduled to be euthanized that we are unable to help due to the decrease in adoptions. These are GOOD, healthy, happy animals dying. There is no space.
If you have space in your home to help, please consider fostering. Fostering allows a better chance to show their character and find the adoptive families they are waiting for. Fostering opens up kennel space to save another life. Time is of the essence for the countless animals hoping for a space with us. It's truly an enriching experience to foster for everyone involved. Please help us protect and preserve these precious lives.

Picture of Louie. Louie has been ready for adoption for months. He’s a 7-year-old GOOD BOY. Fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. Dog, cat, kid-friendly.
Zero applications. 💔
