the Rio Pescado stubfoot toad (Atelopus balios), is a species of toad in the family Bufonidae. It is endemic to southwestern Ecuador, with records from Pacific lowlands in Azuay, Cañar, and Guayas Provinces. It is a rare species that was already suspected to be extinct, but a single specimen was discovered in 2011 by a team from Conservation International during a hunt for missing amphibians. The decline in amphibian populations is well documented. The Atelopus balios is Critically Endangered as a result of the widespread amphibian Chytridiomycosis fungus that has decimated other amphibian populations. There are only 10 known findings of the tadpole, Atelopus balios. 🐸

The blood parrot cichlid, or parrot cichlid, is a hybrid species of fish in the family Cichlidae. The fish was first bred in Taiwan around 1986. Blood parrots should not be confused with other parrot cichlids or salt water parrotfish. Adult fish grow to a length of about 7 to 8 inches (20 cm) and may reach an age of 10 to 15 years. Males are slightly larger than females. These hybrids are easily recognized by their unique features—a round body and a beak-like head with large eyes. They can indeed act out and display aggressive behaviors. However, most of the time this only occurs when the fish is around other aggressive fish. If you keep these fish in an overcrowded tank they'll tend to be a bit more territorial too. 🧡

Madagascar leaf-nosed snake, Langaha madagascariensis:
It’s no surprise that this strange looking snake species is found no other than one of the biodiversity hotspots of the world, Madagascar. This semi-arboreal, rear-fanged species has considerable sexual dimorphism (very obvious differences between the sexes) and unusual behaviors. It’s front appendages are used for feeding and foraging, combined with its body for cryptic camouflage. With its cryptic coloration and unique nasal extensions, this species stalks its prey while hooding like a cobra to perfectly blend it as a vine swaying in the wind. Although not much is understood about the biology of the species, what we do know is that it is truly one of a kind and perfectly adapted to one of the most biologically diverse islands on Earth. 🐍

The northern hairy-nosed wombat or yaminon is one of three extant species of Australian marsupials known as wombats. Northern hairy-nosed wombats have bodies covered in soft, grey fur; the fur on their noses sets them apart from the common wombat. They have longer, more pointed ears and a much broader muzzle than the other two species. Individuals can be 35 cm high, up to 1 m long and weigh up to 40 kg. It is one of the rarest land mammals in the world and is critically endangered. Northern hairy-nosed wombats are grazing animals, feeding solely on native and introduced grasses. Although their diet is fibrous, tooth wear is not an issue for wombats, as their teeth continue to grow throughout their life. ❤️

Chersobius signatus is the world's smallest species of tortoise. The species is commonly known as the speckled tortoise and also known locally as the speckled padloper and internationally as the speckled Cape tortoise. These tortoises are found in South Africa, and Namibia, and the region between these two. While specifically talking about their living in South Africa, most of these tortoises are found on the West side of it, and there, they live in dry and arid areas. It lives on rocky outcrops near to the small succulent plant, part of their diet so that it won’t have to go far away for food-searching. Females have a noticeable larger size than males. The carapace length in female species has an average of 10 cm that makes up 3.9 inches. Male species have a carapace length of about 6-8 cm that makes up between 2.4-3.1 inches. Length of hatchlings measures up to a maximum of 1.2 inches. Being herbivorous in nature, these species feed on a large amount of plants and plant like materials such as endive, chicory, fleaworts, plants from the genus Taraxacum and dandelions. There is not any specific data declared about exactly how long this species gets to live, but it is believed that they can live up to 100 years or maybe more than 100 years. ❤️🐢

Lygodactylus williamsi is a critically endangered species of lizard in the family Gekkonidae. Common names include turquoise dwarf gecko, William's dwarf gecko, and, in the pet trade, electric blue gecko. Lygodactylus williamsi inhabits the tropical forest along the eastern foothills of the Ulu-guru Mountains, at altitudes between 170 and 480 meters (560 - 1,570 feet), where they exclusively reside on the Pandanus rabaiensis plant. This plant only grows in swampy areas or in areas with a limestone substratum. It is estimated that these geckos live for around 8-10 years in captivity. Electric blue day geckos are omnivores, eating both insects and fruit in the wild. In captivity, they will thrive on a diet of gecko diet mix and feeder insects. 💙🦎

The Qinling panda is a subspecies of the giant panda, discovered in the 1960s but not recognized as a subspecies until 2005. The nominate subspecies, it is the first giant panda subspecies to be recognized in the world
Qinling pandas prefer a terrestrial habitat in a semi-arid climate which can be found in the Qinling Mountains in the Shaanxi province. Qinling pandas differ from the Giant Panda not only in color (although most have the traditional black and white coloring), but also in their slightly smaller skulls and proportionately larger molar teeth. Scientists are still uncertain as to why Qinling Pandas display such unique coloring. 🐼
