Healthy Pet Altoona

Healthy Pet Altoona Full Service Veterinary Hospital.

Sister hospital to Healthy Pet Chetek (formerly the Animal Hospital of Chetek) and Healthy Pet Rice Lake (formerly the Animal Hospital North).

Additional dates:

We have our May schedule, it is unfortunately limited. But we are still trying to find more help.

As of now we have a veterinarian on April 16, 21, 23, and 26. There are still a few spots left on the 23rd for anyone trying to schedule a surgery or dental.

For May we will have a veterinarian on the 5th, 7th, 14th, and 17th.

As usual we still have employees on the days we do not have a veterinarian on staff for those looking to pick up medication, schedule an appointment, or need a nail trim.

Thank you all for your continued patience.

April Availability

Hi all,

We have not thrown in the towel yet. We have a relief vet for a few days in April. April 7, 9, 16, 21, and 23. The 23 as of now is only available for surgery and dental work.

We also have two Saturdays in April with Dr. Khan (the 5th and the 26th).

We're still actively looking for a veterinarian, but we do appreciate those of you still supporting us. We are obviously short staffed, so please leave messages or even email us for appointments. Because of the limited availability, the appointments do fill fast.

The days we do not have a veterinarian, we still have a technician available for filling prescriptions and answering general questions.

Thank you all for the overwhelmingly positive thoughts about Healthy Pet Altoona.

As stated, we're trying to keep the hospital open. We now have a relief veterinarian coming in on March 10, 12, 24, and 27th. We hope we can schedule additional veterinarians as well, but this is a start.

Please keep in mind, no matter what happens, you will have access to your pets' records by contacting Healthy Pet Chetek or Healthy Pet Rice Lake.

As many of you have seen or heard, Healthy Pet Altoona is for sale. And we may close on March 6th. As of right now we are not booking any appointments beyond that date.

Healthy Pet Rice Lake and Healthy Pet Chetek are very much open, and are absolutely not affected by changes in Altoona. Any Altoona client that needs their pets’ records can contact Altoona until the March 6th, or Chetek/Rice Lake any time beyond that.

And while we know it is a drive, Altoona Clients are still welcome in Chetek, and if medications need to be refilled, we can still approve and ship them from our other locations. Please keep this availability in mind, especially when it comes to very expensive procedures. We know part of our appeal was being reasonably priced, and we do not want our clients to potentially have to spend several thousand dollars if their cat has a urinary blockage, their dog eats a sock, or a pet has a broken tooth. We cannot promise we can fit everyone in, but our costs can sometimes be half or even a third of emergency prices. It never hurts to call.

The long-term plan for Healthy Pet Altoona is still unknown, which is why we waited until now to disclose this. We have been actively trying to sell the hospital to another veterinarian, but as we are learning, that is not an easy task.

We have also been in contact with some relief veterinarians, but the coverage they can provide as of now, simply does not work with the current demands of the hospital. This is still an avenue we are exploring.

Finally we are still actively trying to hire another veterinarian. And we offer a very competitive wage and benefits package (totaling about 200,000/year). So if the public wants to help keep his hospital open, please get that word out.

Even if Altoona does close, the hope is that it only temporary, as again we may find the staff we need, or another owner may have the opportunity to help the clients and pets that have supported us through the years.

Yesterday afternoon we met with Officer Emily to receive a small dog she got out of a bad situation. Yesterday we caught up as we loaded donations she helped to collect into our car. She giggled when she saw a 150 pound June Bug in our front seat, and laughed as we talked about saddling her up to save on gas. Her face lit up when we brought June Bug out for some lovin, and we talked about the rescue dogs she loved to help.

A photo that was taken yesterday afternoon, and meant to be shared with a message of love and gratitude, now means so much more to us.

Emily was truly a gift to our community. She shined her brightest when serving. Her commitment to the safety of us all, her love of mentoring children, her encouragement, her amazing laugh and goofy humor, her huge giving heart and her friendship will be sorely missed by us all.

Today we find it hard to find the light. Disbelief, anger, sadness. But we know the strength of our community, and have seen it before. When we gather close in love, the hate has no room.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13)

We continue to pray for Emily and Hunter, their family, their friends, and their fellow officers. ❤️

We are not a news source, nor do we want to be. But we obviously have close ties to Chetek and Cameron. And we are absolutely devastated by the loss of two officers in the line of duty earlier today.

Well we fell about 2100 pages likes short of the goal. But we did generate enough awareness for 10 free spays and neuters for local shelters. But we are not giving up. Instead of ending this giveaway today, we'll extend it indefinitely. Get us to 2600 likes and we'll donate 40 more surgeries to shelters in need.
